10 Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just write something bad!

Harper’s best friend and roommate Becca comes home to find her sprawled out on the couch, covered in take-out food and a fuzzy jacket, and complaining that she’ll never be a writer because she can’t finish her article. Harper says it’s terrible and she’ll never be a success because she’s such a bad writer and her friend Becca tells her to snap out of it. She says that Harper just needs to finish her first draft no matter how bad it is and get out of the perfectionist mindset, and it’s a good reminder for the audience as well.

9 Oh my God, we’re not old enough to get married though.

Harper’s best friend Becca is proposed to and although she’s happy and approves of Becca’s fiancé, they’re both 25 and Harper lets this line slip that she thinks they’re still too young to get married. It’s not about Becca, but more about Harper as she’s not had a serious relationship and can’t even imagine committing to a marriage.

7 One is a stunningly beautiful woman with dark hair and a fierceness that’s both scary and inspiring. The other is a guy.

Charlie and Harper try to get their bosses (Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu) on the kiss cam at a Yankees game so Harper talks to her friend who works at the stadium. She pauses for a moment, and then she describes Rick as just a guy that will be next to her.

6 I think I’ve seen the Lindsay Lohan classic enough times to know that we’re full-on Parent Trapping hard.

Harper continues to refer to their plan as a “Cyrano” and Charlie finally admits that he doesn’t know what she means. When she explains what it is, he says that’s not actually what they’re doing at all because it’s more like the film Parent Trap.

He goes on to try to prove his point by saying that he’s seen the classic film so many times so he knows that’s what they’re doing.

5 A lot of men proposed to me in my twenties. I could be thrice divorced by now.

Kirsten gets upset with Rick at the beginning of their relationship and starts to vent to Harper about how ridiculous he is being. She says that she doesn’t deserve this type of treatment, and Harper agrees with her and mentions that she has had multiple men propose to her in the past and claims that it has been so many that she could have been divorced multiple times since.

4 I wanna f*** this pizza.

3 You like because and you love despite. You like someone because of all of their qualities, and you love someone despite some of their qualities.

Becca gives a speech at her engagement party about her future husband and it has her, and everyone else, getting choked up. She says that her grandmother used to tell her this phrase and she lists some of her fiancé’s little quirks that make her laugh but she also can’t stand. It’s a funny and heartfelt speech with a great message at its heart.

2 The best meal I ever had was a five-dollar pizza thrown up a fire escape.

Charlie finally realizes that he and his current girlfriend Suze are not a good fit together when she’s excited about going to an overrated restaurant.

He says that the dinner is fine, but it’s completely overpriced and the ambiance of the restaurant is weird and then he breaks up with her. He realizes he’d rather have a $5 pizza with Harper than a $70 steak with Suze.

1 You’re not hard to get at all, you’re hard to earn, and that’s so much better.

Charlie opens up to Harper and tells her why he wants to be with her at the end of the film. Part of his speech is the line above as he says that she’s easy to be with, and they just understand each other. But he also says that she’s hard to earn, meaning that she has confidence and independence to her which he respects and is part of the sentimental end to the rom-com.
