A heartening British teen drama, Netflix’s Sex Education has taken the world by storm, thanks to its unique concept, presented with hilarity and emotions aplenty. Starring Emma Mackey and Asa Butterfield, among others, the show revolves around the problems teenagers suffer during their puberty years.

The Netflix original series released its first season in 2019, and it soon became a worldwide hit. Although the start of the series focused upon introducing the different characters, who drive the interwoven storylines, Sex Education, eventually, started living up to its name. 8 Episode 1 (8.0)

In the first episode of season one, Otis is shown to be a shy teenager who confides in his friend, Eric. At the school, Eric is shown to be bullied by Adam, who forcefully takes his sandwich before threatening him to give whatever he has. Jackson, the school monitor, writes his number for Maeve and asks her to meet him after school. Meanwhile, Otis’ mom, Jean, ends up smoking weed with Adam.

The next day at school, Otis is partnered with Maeve for a science class, but Adam’s ill-advised actions lead to Otis storming out of the class. Maeve follows to check on him, while Adam needs help with a personal problem. Otis’ advice to Adam doesn’t end up having a positive effect. Moreover, Maeve proposes a business opportunity to Otis, and he takes her up on that offer.

7 Episode 2 (8.0)

In the second episode of season one, Harry, one of Jean’s partners, arrives at her doorstep with flowers, but Jean, quite emphatically, says that she isn’t looking to date anyone. At their first sex therapy session, Otis scares away the client thanks to his nervousness speaking.

Maeve tries to calm him down and gives him a weird uplifting speech. Moreover, she suggests that they should go to Aimee’s party, as they could have a lot of possible clients there. At the party, Otis is at his most awkward best, while Jackson tries to find ways to impress Maeve. Otis does help someone with his deep knowledge of intimate activities.

6 Episode 6 (8.1)

In the sixth episode of season one, after sharing a moment with Otis, Maeve gets back together with Jackson, while Otis tries to patch things up with Eric after what happened on his birthday. Furthermore, Aimee seeks out Otis’ professional help before the latter has a video call with his father. Also, after feeling a bit uneasy with Lily, Otis heads out of the house for some fresh air, where he encounters Ola, Jakob’s daughter. Maeve, on the other hand, has to deal with some family problems as her brother Sean shows up out of nowhere.

5 Episode 4 (8.2)

In the fourth episode of the first season, Otis and Maeve’s friendship grows, and Eric begins to wonder if there’s something more here. Jackson is struggling to impress Maeve, so he reaches out to Otis for help. Mr. Groff, Adam’s father, is unhappy with his son’s grades and gives him a warning. Furthermore, a man named Jakob arrives at Jean’s house, while Otis visits some of his new clients. Otis helps Jackson without realizing it.

4 Episode 3 (8.4)

In the third episode of season one, Lily struggles to think about what she feels about sex, while Maeve goes to the abortion clinic. There, she is asked a couple of uneasy questions. Jackson wakes up to his morning routine, but Otis’ morning is not the same, as he wakes up to a shocking surprise.

Jean, told by Otis to not enter his room, gives in and tries to find what’s so “messy” about her son’s room. At the school, Maeve briefs Otis regarding the therapy appointments, and he begins seeing clients. Moreover, Maeve wants a favor from Otis.

3 Episode 8 (8.4)

In the season one finale, Lily and Otis talk about their feelings, as Otis is able to give good advice. Maeve finally broke up with Jackson, and then she was called by Mr. Groff to his office. He suspected her of being involved in a drug trade in the school and wanted her to give up her brother, Sean. But, even though she wasn’t involved, she said that drugs were hers, which means her position in the school is now in danger. Moreover, Otis feels his privacy has been violated by his mother, Jean.

2 Episode 5 (8.7)

In the fifth episode of season one, a conspiracy takes place, with Maeve and Otis being sought out for help. They work together, as they search down the person who released a personal photo of Ruby to every student in Moordale. Also, it’s Eric’s birthday, so, as part of a tradition, Otis gives him something nice, but he eventually stands him up to help with the investigation. That turns out to be a bad decision, to say the least.

1 Episode 7 (8.7)

In the penultimate episode of the first season, the students prepare for a fairy tale themed dance, while Otis continues to help the students. Moreover, he asks Ola to be her date for the event, and, quite clearly, Maeve is jealous. Finally, Eric and Otis patched up and danced together, but all is not well with Maeve and Jackson, as some secrets are revealed after the latter got drunk. Jean and Jakob got ever so closer, making up for an intimate moment.
