HBO’s Sex and the City ran for six seasons and inspired two feature films. The fabulous lives of Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York will go down in TV history. These four women lived unapologetically and became the image for what being 30 looks like in New York City.

With Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw as the star of the show, her lavish lifestyle on a columnist’s salary became the fascination of the series. Her chic apartment has had its changes over the course of six seasons but the brownstone on Perry Street will forever be an icon in the Sex and the City universe. Let’s take a look at 10 details Sex and the City fans didn’t notice about Carrie’s apartment.

10 Why Does Carrie’s Bathroom Window Change?

Carrie’s bathroom gets chirped a lot from New Yorkers. For starters, she has a very large bathroom for an apartment of her size. We’ve seen her and her many lovers in this bathroom without any problems and yet there are other scenes where Carrie acts like she has no room.

At the same time, there’s a window on the wall of her shower that appears to change in size depending on the episode! The inconsistencies in her bathroom continue with her shower curtain. Sometimes it’s there, other times it’s just a tub with no shower head. Her apartment is very mysterious.

9 If Carrie Didn’t Buzz Them In, Who Did?

Like millions of New Yorkers, Carrie has an intercom attached to her apartment building so she’s able to buzz any visitors into the building. However, there have been multiple times when visitors (both wanted and unwanted) have appeared at Carrie’s doorstep without being buzzed in.

This means they either caught a lucky break and walked in while one of Carrie’s neighbors had the door open or they’re buzzing other apartments to let them in. Either way, Carrie was surprised to see guests pop up at her door but she should be more concerned with who was buzzing them in.

8 It’s All About The Details

As a writer, Carrie’s charming apartment has books and magazines all of the place. Some may think it looks disorganized but for Carrie, it’s her passion. For all fans know, she has columns or articles in those magazines and books and it’s living proof that her work is continuously published.

Adorably, right next to her bed in a few scenes is the book Writing To Sell by Scott Meredith. The book was published in 1996 and is a guide to publish great work. The book is currently available on Amazon.

7 The Exterior Changes Throughout The Series

The entrance to Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment is one of the most iconic doorsteps in TV history. We saw so many amazing Carrie moments on these stairs. But did you know production used more than one apartment-front for Carrie moments? There were actually four! According to an eagle-eyed blogger, there are four different doorsteps Carrie has called her own and they even did some digging to find the addresses.

In the first two episodes of Sex and the City, the front of Carrie’s apartment was filmed at 960 Madison Ave. in New York. In one episode, she was filmed on 34 East and 62nd Street but the building is no longer standing. In later episodes, the two more notable apartment entries were at 64 and 66 Perry Street in New York.

6 Exactly How Long Is Her Closet?

Carrie’s closet may as well be in the Smithsonian. It’s not just the fashion that gives Sex and the City fans fond memories, it’s the moments of Carrie in her closet. From trying on dresses before a date to crying while looking at her wedding dress — Carrie and her closet are one and the same.

However, in some scenes, Carrie’s closet looks insanely long while it appears much shorter in other scenes. With the way Carrie’s apartment is laid out, her closet connects her bathroom to her bedroom but it’s rarely the same length or width.

5 Carrie’s Kitchen Makes No Sense

Speaking of dimensions that don’t make sense, let’s take a look at Carrie’s kitchen. Now, even the modest Sex and the City fan knows that Carrie doesn’t cook. She keeps sweaters in her oven and would rather dine out.

Next to Carrie’s fridge is a small wine wrack, some counter space, a shelf, and a microwave. But in certain scenes (like when Aleksandr tries to cook Carrie dinner), the wall that’s behind the fridge and the microwave is all of a sudden not there. You can see the backside of the microwave in the picture on the right but that wouldn’t be possible if looking at the picture on the left.

4 The Hallway Leading To Carrie’s Place Has No Consistency

A blogger named Sydney Schuster pointed out an inconsistency with Carrie’s hallway. Sometimes people enter from the right, other times from the left but the layout of the building wouldn’t allow people to enter Carrie’s apartment from both sides of the hall.

It would also appear that people would have to use the fire escape in order to reach Carrie’s apartment since the door to enter the brownstone is in the center of the building. In short: Schuster believes the set designer has never been in a New York City apartment building and totally fudged up the dynamics of it all.

3 Walls & Art Work Shifted

It’s not unusual for Carrie to give her apartment a facelift in the decorating department but she’s not going to bust down walls and shit the integrity of the building to make it work for her.

Carrie loves old New York and adores her building. With that being said, the wall next to Carrie’s bed seems to have shifted by itself. If you look at the picture on the right, her headboard is much closer to the hedge in the wall than it is in the photo on the left. And let’s not ignore her moving that yellow poster around…

2 Where Did Carrie’s Radiator Go?

Radiators are very common in older buildings; especially in an old brownstone in New York like Carrie’s. We can see her radiator in perfect sight right beside her bed. She used the top of the radiator as a table of sorts. However, when the first movie came along, her radiator was nowhere to be found.

She had a chic end-table in its place but it’s not like Carrie could have moved it. Viewers saw Carrie give her apartment a makeover but transferring a radiator doesn’t seem like her specialty.

1 Carrie Doesn’t Look Much Like A Painter

Again, is Carre some sort of undercover ‘Mrs. Fix It’? Not only did her radiator disappear and wall change dimensions but her apartment changed its paint color quite frequently.

One minute it’s purple and the next it’s a soft cream color. Since the show lasted for six seasons, it’s very possible that Carrie had some work done to the apartment but it seems like her apartment saw more color changes than the seasons.
