Shadow and Bone star Kit Young, who plays slyly charming Jesper Fahey, shows off his incredibly impressive gunslinging skills in a new video. For weeks now, Netflix has been hyping up its latest original fantasy series, and it has finally arrived. Shadow and Bone is based on author Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, which has been explored in multiple book series and short stories. The first season, which dropped last Friday, follows orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) after she uncovers the extremely rare power within her and becomes the key to saving her home country of Ravka.

Bardugo and Shadow and Bone showrunner Eric Heisserer made the surprising decision to combine the original Grishaverse trilogy (which claims Shadow and Bone as its first novel) and the Six of Crows duology for the series, despite the two taking place years apart. This means a handful of characters from Six of Crows have roles in the first season, including Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman), and Jesper. This gave Shadow and Bone the opportunity to create new character interactions and start developing the Crows ahead of their main storyline.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Jesper is known for his talents as a sharpshooter, which meant Young had to work on his own skills in order to portray him. On Tuesday, Young shared a video online and put the spotlight on his improved gunslinging skills after a month of training. As he revealed in the caption, this took place just before filming on Shadow and Bone began, and it really proves just how much his hard work has paid off. You can see Young’s post in the space below.

For fans of the books, seeing the Crows join the action of Shadow and Bone was a special kind of thrill, though many are still quite excited to see them reach their story from the books. Six of Crows follows Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina Zenik (Danielle Galligan), Matthias Helvar (Calahan Skogman), and Wylan Van Eck as they embark on a daring heist. It remains to be seen whether that will become a focal point in season 2, though Heisserer has confirmed Wylan will make his debut. Jesper and Wylan have a sweet relationship in the books, so it’s safe to say their first meeting will be eagerly anticipated.

First things first, though: Shadow and Bone needs to get renewed. Netflix has so far stayed mum on the topic, but considering the amount of promotion they put into the series, it would be shocking if the streamer didn’t greenlight a season 2. Shadow and Bone remains on the top of Netflix’s Daily Top 10 list, so an announcement could emerge within the next few weeks. Only then can fans truly get excited about what’s ahead for Jesper and the rest of the Grishaverse cast.
