Shahs of Sunset: MJ & Tommy’s Relationship Timeline

Mercedes “MJ” Javid from Shahs of Sunset has candidly shared her relationship ups and downs with her husband Tommy Feight on screen. The couple has been married for three years and are proud parents to their 2-year-old son Shams Francis Feight. What started as a fling on Tinder led to having an over-the-top engagement, a TV wedding, and now a child. MJ and Tommy have been through a lot together and the majority of their relationship was presented on the show.

MJ has been a cast member on Shahs of Sunset from the beginning. Bravo fans were first introduced to her as a single woman living in Los Angeles hanging out with the other cast members and long-time BFF Reza Farahan. MJ did not want anything to do with marriage at first. She was posing in racy photoshoots and stopping her mother Vida Javid from convincing her to be a traditional Persian woman.

MJ’s husband Tommy first appeared on the show in season 5. Vida did not originally approve of MJ’s relationship with him and was skeptical. After five years, they are still going strong with their own little family, now that their son Shams is growing up so fast. Let’s take a look back at how their love story unfolded over the years.

MJ & Tommy Met On Tinder

In 2015, MJ & Tommy met on the dating app Tinder. They weren’t heading for “Happily Ever After” right away because it was supposed to be just a fling. “He wasn’t looking for something meaningful that was going to last a long time,” she said about her husband in Yahoo Life’s It’s Love series. Their official first date happened after three to four months of talking online, where MJ introduced Tommy to her parents.

MJ & Tommy Get Engaged

After one year of dating, Tommy proposed to MJ in a cemetery. Their romantic engagement was filmed in season 5 of Shahs of Sunset for viewers to see. It was funeral-themed and included flying doves, a vintage car, and a choir. MJ was dressed in white and Tommy had a suit on. All cast members were in attendance at the graveside proposal, including MJ’s frenemy Golnesa Gharachedaghi.

MJ & Tommy Tie The Knot

On April 21, 2018, MJ and Tommy tied the knot at the Jeremy in West Hollywood. The couple exchanged their vows to one another in an outdoor ceremony decorated with flowers. MJ’s dogs were the ring-bearers and Reza was the man of honor. Persian traditions were incorporated into the ceremony to honor MJ’s heritage. Shahs of Sunset fans came along for the journey and were able to see the wedding on TV in season 7. Families of both the bride and groom were invited, as well as the entire cast of the show.

MJ & Tommy Become Parents

MJ and Tommy’s family grew on April 17, 2019, when their son Shams Francis Feight was born. MJ gave birth to Shams via C-section and had complications after his birth. “During my delivery, I lost two-thirds of my body’s blood supply, requiring 19 units of blood during the surgery, then [was] intubated and placed in ICU from having significant fluid in my lungs after my C-section,” she told US Weekly. While Shams may be the first baby in the Shahs of Sunset family, he is now joined by Golnesa’s son Elijah, who is a year younger than him. The two finally met on the current season of the show.

While MJ is not able to have any more kids, she and Tommy are spending a lot of time with their son Shams. Tommy loves being a dad, and his favorite things to do with his son are reading books and taking him on rides, while MJ watches their special bond.
