The famous bus fight from Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been re-edited to Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” by a devoted fan on Reddit, making the scene all the more cool to watch. Starring Simu Liu as the titular martial artist with a troubled family background, the film marked the first MCU entry to predominantly feature actors of East-Asian heritage. Along with breaking a slew of box-office records, Shang-Chi also received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its depiction of Asian culture (including its rectifying of some of Marvel’s previous missteps in Asian representation) and for the choreography of its fantastically intricate action sequences.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The film follows the story of Shang-Chi as he attempts to live a normal life in San Francisco after he escapes from his warlord father Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung), the leader of the criminal organization known as the Ten Rings (named after the mystical objects which grant Wenwu his superhuman powers). But when Shang-Chi is attacked by the organization, he sets-off on a mission with his sister Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) and best friend Katy (Awkwafina) to stop his father from unleashing the soul-eating demon, the Dweller-In-Darkness. The superhero’s first encounter with the Ten Rings takes-place in one of the film’s most famous and beloved scenes, in which Shang-Chi is attacked on a bus in San Francisco by the criminal fraternity as it attempts to steal his mother’s pendant.

Now, the widely-popular bus fight has been re-edited by a dedicated fan to be accompanied by a legendary rock ballad in place of the film’s original chosen track “Run It” by DJ Snake, Rick Ross, and Rich Brian. Reddit-user IronSPlDer shared their rearrangement of the action sequence on the social media site, commenting “I edited Shang-Chi bus fight scene with Immigrant song. Hope you like it!“. This is not the first time that Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” has been used to enhance a high-octane Marvel fight scene. In 2017’s Asgardian threequel Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi used the same song during a climatic battle in which the lightning god and his allies fend-off against the dreaded Hela and her minions, also earning itself a place as one of Marvel’s most celebrated action sequences. It’s therefore quite likely that the choice of track for this re-imagining of the bus battle is at least partly based on how well “Immigrant Song” naturally fit into the earlier film. Based on the reactions of some of the post’s comments, it would appear that many fans agree that it fits Shang-Chi just as well as it did for Thor: Ragnarok.

For many Marvel fans, this edit may come as something of a dream-come-true, as it essentially acts as a marriage between two of the most famous and widely-revered scenes in all of the MCU. Indeed, it may well be that some devotees of the superhero franchise prefer the song-choice here than the one used in the actual film. But whether most fans welcome this change to Shang-Chi‘s soundtrack or not, it’s clear simply by the sheer amount of effort put into this edit that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has not lost any of the appeal or love that made it such a success for Marvel when it first came out (especially with regard to its fight scenes).
