In a recently released deleted scene, it is revealed that Florian Munteanu’s Razor Fist originally died in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Munteanu’s Ten Ring’s operative faces off with Simu Liu’s titular character in the Destin Daniel Cretton MCU movie. The second film of Phase 4 of the MCU was released digitally and on Disney+ on November 12th, with its Blu-ray and DVD release scheduled for November 30th.

In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Razor Fist is a member of Wenwu’s (Tony Leung) powerful Ten Rings organization tasked with bringing Shang-Chi and Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) back to their father. He later participates in the assault on the hidden village of Ta Lo alongside Wenwu to supposedly free his wife (Fala Chen), before working with the villagers to fight the Dweller in Darkness. He then joins Xialing’s new Ten Rings organization. With Razor Fist joining Xialing and Munteanu teasing the character’s backstory in Shang-Chi 2, it may be a surprise to fans that Razor Fist’s survival wasn’t always guaranteed.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ahead of the Blu-ray and DVD release, an exclusive deleted scene has been revealed by IGN, taking place during the film’s Ta Lo battle climax. During the scene, Katy (Awkwafina) is seen panicking and hiding from the Dweller’s minions, with Razor Fist comforting her and encouraging her to fight on. Razor Fist then sacrifices his life to help Katy get the bow that she uses to strike the Dweller in Darkness, before being claimed by one of the creature’s minions and having his soul consumed. Razor Fist is a character with plenty of future potential as well as cut content, as Munteanu’s has also teased an additional Shang-Chi deleted scene that would explore the character’s backstory. Though the character isn’t confirmed to be returning anytime soon, a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was reported to be in development in October. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ post-credits scene also teased a return for the Ten Rings organization, with the scene being followed by a card reading “The Ten Rings Will Return.”.

Razor Fist’s cut death in the deleted scene expands on the character greatly. In the final cut of the film, his alliance with the villagers can be seen as a choice of survival rather than from a place of kindness. However, his encouragement of Katy, as well as his ultimate sacrifice, teases a more compassionate side that the theatrical release doesn’t quite show. Munteanu has also teased that Razor Fist sees himself as a hero, not a villain, so it is possible that the sequel or a future MCU project could explore the character in a more complex manner. With Xialing taking control of the Ten Rings at the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Razor Fist at her side, it is possible the character could occupy a more grey area of morality going forward.
