Actress Sherri Evonne Shepherd has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows since 1995. She is also known for being the co-host of The View from 2007 to 2014. The gig earned her five Daytime Emmy Award nominations. Shepherd also participated as a celebrity contestant on Season 14 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Shephard’s appearances in numerous sitcoms eventually helped her land roles in major films. She ended up giving her best-ever performance in the Academy Award-winning film, Precious. Sherri played a talk-show host named Vicki who was modeled after Oprah in the romantic comedy Think Like A Man. She appeared in scenes where she and Steve Harvey (from whose book the film was adapted) discuss the book.

The movie had a stellar ensemble cast that included Kevin Hart, Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Terrence J, Taraji P. Henson, and Gabrielle Union. It went on to gross $96,070,507 globally against a production budget of $12.5 million. The reception from audiences was positive too.

9 TV Show: 30 Rock (8.2)

Sherri portrayed Tracy Jordan’s wife Angie Jordan in the NBC comedy series 30 Rock. Tracy had the public persona of a bad boy, but in reality, he was very faithful to Angie. In order to keep up his image, he tried to make false claims about his fidelity in the media.

Angie had been married to Tracy for 15 years. She met him at a strip club, where she offered him a shrimp cup for free. Angie was also the star of a fictional reality series known as Queen of Jordan. She pursued a music career too, but her song, hilariously titled “My Single is Dropping,” failed to get adequate airplay.

8 Movie: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (6.6)

In the second installment of the Madagascar film series, Sherri voiced Zuba’s wife and Alex’s mother, Florrie. She was the leader of the lioness pack and she was also one of the film’s two tritagonists. Unlike Zuba, who was always clashing with their son, Alex,  Florrie loved him and accepted him for he was.

Alex preferred to dance instead of engaging in fights, but this didn’t bother Florrie. When Alex went away, she worked hard to convince Zuba to agree to his return. Her main enemy was the lion, Makunga.

7 TV Show: How I Met Your Mother (8.3)

Sherri’s character in How I Met Your Mother was named Daphne. She first appeared in Season 9’s first episode titled “The Locket.” When Marshall was taking a flight from Minnesota to New York, he delayed the takeoff by insisting on talking to his mother via the phone. Daphne, the passenger next to him, got angry and began fighting him.

They both got kicked off the plane, only to find out that there was only one more seat available on the next (and last) flight to New York. In the next episode titled “Coming Back,” they discovered that there was a storm that had grounded flights, forcing them to go and buy a car. A friendship thus developed.

6 Movie: Brian Banks (7.2)

Brian Banks is an emotional film that tells the real-life story of Brian, a high school football star whose life takes a turn for the worst when he gets arrested and convicted of a crime that he is not responsible for. Despite there being no evidence, Brian gets sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Several years later, Justin Brooks, together with the California Innocence Project, work to help Brian get justice. Sherri gives an outstanding performance as Brian’s mother, Leomia Banks.

5 TV Show: Entourage (8.4)

Sherri Shepherd first cameoed as herself in “Fire Sale,” the fourth episode of Season 5. At around the 10-minute mark, she shows up to help out in a fake recording of The View.

Elsewhere in the episode, a popular Holywood director took interest in one screenwriter’s film script, leading other writers to up their prices with their belief that there would soon be a bidding war. However, this was far from the case. Whoopi Goldberg also cameoed as herself in the episode.

4 Movie: Precious (7.3)

The award-winning film follows an illiterate teen from Harlem who discovers a new world after she decides to start going to school. Despite being a teenager, Precious is pregnant with her second child and life is very complicated for her. Luckily for her, a teacher and nurse at her new school help her find happiness.

Sherri Shepherd portrayed a woman named Cornrows. The film received extremely positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a score of 91%. Precious received six Oscar nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It managed to win an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

3 TV Show: Friends (8.9)

In Friends, Sherri played Rhonda, a tour guide who worked at the same museum where Ross Geller used to work. She was loud and constantly eavesdropped on other people’s conversations.

Sherri claimed that she was axed from the show after she asked the producers to have more people of color on it. Sherri’s friend Jawn Murray told ABC News that the actress sent a card to the producers saying: “Friends, get a little color.” Friends creator Marta Kauffman recently apologized for the clear lack of diversity on the show.

2 Movie: Twas The Chaos Before Christmas (8.2)

The BET Christmas film follows a couple who decide to rent a luxury home in Washington, D.C. after the wife gets lucky and wins the lottery, thinking it will help their extended family to bond.

However, when they arrive at the property, they discover that another family had booked it at the same time. With every other place fully booked, the two families decided to stay at the same property. Chaos soon ensues because they all have very different ways of doing things.

1 TV Show: Rick And Morty (9.2)

Sherri first appeared in the episode “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat,” in which she voiced the judge that set Morty free. In the episode, Morty was not thinking clearly since he was being controlled by the death crystal he stole.

Determined to die next to Jessica, he went on a violent rampage. He went through Rick’s arsenal and took several high-caliber weapons. After taking care of the bullies, he went on a killing spree, forcing the police and army to get involved. Surprisingly. the judge (Sherri) set him free in court.
