Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster has some brutally difficult boss fights, but the Moirae sisters add an extra layer of annoyance, by hiding behind a puzzle. The Moirae sisters come from Greek mythology, where they spin the fates of living beings in their thread.

In Nocturne HD, the player will need to visit a dungeon called the Obelisk, which has numerous floors and elevators that need ascending. This is one of the longest dungeons in the story and the encounter rate is sky-high, so it’s recommended that the player bring lots of healing items, especially ones that restore mana.

The Obelisk dungeon contains puzzles that involve stepping on plates that have 1-4 squares on them. The exit to these puzzles has 1-8 squares on them. In order to bypass these puzzles, the player will need to step on the plates and add up the number of dots each time, so that the final plate they step on is next to the block and adds up to the numbers on its surface. The Moirae sisters’ puzzle is a little different, as the player needs to complete the blocks in a specific order.

The Time Puzzle in Shin Megami Tensei 3 HD

The Moirae sisters’ puzzle involves battling all three of them individually. They will each flee after the battle. The player has to beat them in the order of their birth, from youngest to oldest. In this case, the player has to go from right to left, fighting Clotho, then Lachesis, then Atropos. This has to be done in one cycle. If the player leaves the puzzle before finishing all three fights, the battle will reset. The exact movement required by the player involves stepping forward onto the puzzle, then right, then up to fight Clotho. Once the battle ends, go down, left, right, left, then up to fight Lachesis. Once that battle ends, go left, right, then left to fight Atropos.

The Battles in Shin Megami Tensei 3 HD

The individual fights against the Sisters aren’t too tricky, with the exception of Clotho, who loves to spam Mahama spells. The player can prepare for this with a party that resists light-element spells, or a party member that can cast Tetraja every turn. Once all three sisters have fled, the path forward will be revealed. The player should take this time to heal and save. Once they reach the 142nd floor, the three sisters will tackle the Demi-fiend at once. Clotho uses healing spells and light-death spells, Lachesis uses buffs, debuffs, and physical/magical shields, and Atropos spams powerful multihit fire, ice, force, and electric spells.

Bring allies into this battle who have access to Fog Breath and Dekaja.  Concentrate all fire on Clotho, as she has healing magic and will keep her side alive with spells. Spam Fog Breath on the entire group and have a demon use Dekaja to break the buffs that Lachesis keeps throwing on the party. Once their accuracy/evasion has been lowered to its limit, then Atropos’ spells should keep missing, which will burn turns for her team, giving the player ample time to defeat the sisters.
