Sister Wives has fascinated viewers for over a decade now, and while not considered one of TLC’s best shows of all time – it certainly has its fans. The show holds a certain fascination among reality television fans because it shows off a family structure that not many people have experienced or come across in their own lives. Like all good reality TV shows, it gives viewers an interesting insight into how other people.

And, like all reality television shows, Sister Wives doesn’t spare any details, but there are some things that may have been glossed over when it comes to Kody’s history with his multiple life partners – leaving viewers with questions about Kody and his wives’ ages as well as the timeline of their relationship over the years, even 16 seasons into the show. The series begins with the five-person union already being formed, and they only talk about their history sparingly. Audiences have been left to wonder how old they are and exactly when and how they met. Luckily, the family has discussed some of this in bits and pieces on the show, while also filling in the gaps in interviews.

Kody Brown, Age 53

The patriarch and architect of the unorthodox family, Kody Brown, was born in Wyoming on January 17, 1969, to a Mormon family. His father was not originally a polygamist, he instead became one later on in Kody’s adolescence.

Kody has quite the large family tree, as he has fifteen biological children, three adopted children, and nine siblings. While large reality television families may not be out of the ordinary for seasoned reality viewers – with plenty of shows like 19 Kids and Counting giving viewers an inside look into extraordinarily big families – Kody’s polygamous relationship certainly gives Sister Wives a unique twist. Kody has previously maxed out at four wives, but he currently has three: Meri, Robyn, and Janelle.

Meri Brown, Age 51

Meri has almost the same birthday as Kody (January 16), just two years later, as she was born in 1971 in California. She too was raised in a polygamist household, with her father embracing it. She was a committed Mormon who attended church often, which is where she would meet Kody.

Meri was 19 when they met, and the two would be married within a year. She was the first wife Kody had, and the only official marriage until the two divorced in late 2014. The pair only divorced for legal reasons, to make it easier for Kody to adopt one of the children of another wife, Robyn. The two have one daughter together, and remain spiritually married, as they describe it. Meri has helped make Sister Wives one of the most controversial TLC shows, becoming embroiled in a catfishing scandal in 2015 (per InTouch Weekly).

Robyn Brown, Age 43

The youngest of Kody’s wives, Robyn, was born on October 9, 1978 in Utah, just a few months shy of a decade after Kody. With laws in their home state of Utah preventing legal marriages to multiple partners, Robyn is currently the only sister wife legally married to Kody.

Robyn met David and Meri together at a mutual friends house. Robyn had not been in a polygamous relationship herself, but did grow up in a household that had one. She officially joined the family by becoming spiritually married to Kody in May of 2010, before having a legal marriage with him in December of 2014. The two have a son and daughter together, while Kody became the legal father of Robyn’s three children from her previous marriage. The two of them seem to have the most intimate and “traditional” husband-wife relationship.

Janelle Brown, Age 52

The closest in age to Kody, Janelle was born a few months after him on May 6, 1969 in Salt Lake City. She was the only one of his wives to come from a monogamous household, but her mother is supportive of her and the family.

She met Kody and Meri when she was 19, before officially joining the family when she was 23 in January 1993. The three of them were close friends with Janelle being intrigued by their non-conventional relationship, but not yet ready for a commitment to them at first despite the love they had for each other. She was married in a monogamous relationship earlier in her life before meeting Kody. She and Kody have six children.

Christine Brown, Age 49

Last but not least, Christine was born on April 18, 1972 to religious and polygamist parents in Utah. She was the third sister wife to join the family, becoming spiritually married to Kody in March 1994. She ultimately split from Kody in late 2021.

The two were friends for years prior to their spiritual union, and her joining the family was often discussed during that time. After her marriage, the two went on to have six children with each other, before she ultimately decided to end the marriage almost twenty years later. The two do seem to be on good terms and are putting their differences aside for the benefit of their children.
