TLC’s Sister Wives follows the lives of one large, fundamentalist Mormon family consisting of four wives and one husband, but which wife does Kody like best? The Browns and their unique family situation have always raised lots of questions about the dynamics of a plural marriage. Jealousy and favoritism is something that the Browns have tried to avoid, but without much luck. It’s pretty clear to see which of Kody’s four wives he likes the least, and which he likes the most.

Kody Brown and his wives made their debut on TLC in 2010. In the last decade, their complex relationships have played out on TV for curious viewers. When the show began, Kody only had three wives. Meri, his first wife, married Kody in 1990. His next two wives, Jenelle and Christine, were “spiritual unions” and not legal marriages, because polygamy is illegal in the United States. However, in the first season of Sister Wives, Kody met his fourth wife, Robyn. Robyn had three children with her first husband, so Kody divorced Meri so that he could legally marry Robyn and adopt her children. As you can imagine, things have been a little bit tense ever since. Here’s how the relationship rankings seem to shake out.

Robyn seems to be Kody’s favorite wife. Choosing to marry her was logistical, yes, but all the wives could sense that there was more to it. Kody has said many times that he knew Robyn was special from the moment he met her. Surprisingly, Meri was a big fan of Robyn too. As Kody tells it, he “felt an undeniable connection to this woman I had just met, as did Meri. This connection was so deep and spiritual that it kept us up all night.” After four months of courting, Meri helped convince Kody to ask Robyn to be their fourth sister wife. Robyn joined the family 16 years after Kody’s third wife, so it was no surprise that Kody saw Robyn as fresh and exciting. The other women could tell that Kody was enamored with his new wife.

On the other hand, Meri is most definitely Kody’s least liked wife, and the feeling seems to be mutual. In 2015, Meri had an emotional online affair with someone who turned out to be a catfish. At that point, she had been feeling a disconnect from Kody, and the catfishing incident made things worse. Kody and Meri have not lived together for years, and in People’s sneak peak of next week’s episode, filmed on their anniversary, Meri revealed that they have not gone out together since last year’s anniversary. Kody admits that it doesn’t bother him much that he rarely sees his first wife, saying that, “if we really wanted to go out more, we would.” After more than 30 years of marriage, Meri still wants to be a part of the Brown family, but it’s clear that Kody has put Meri at the bottom of his list.

Second and third wives Jenelle and Christine fall in the middle of Kody’s wife tier. Jenelle has admitted that she’s more low-key than the other wives and doesn’t require much romance or attention – she prefers an intellectual connection over a romantic one. Christine has always been the comic relief in the family, but she and Kody butted heads over Kody’s plan to build one large house for all the wives to live together. Robyn hated the idea too, but her complaints weren’t enough to knock her from Kody’s top spot, and the order of most favorite to least favorite stands solidly at: Robyn, Jenelle, Christine, and Meri.
