Among the many new Creation pets that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition has added to the base game, the Bone Wolf is undoubtedly one of the more unique and potentially advantageous creature companions. Like any typical follower or pet, the Bone Wolf is able to carry items for the Dragonborn. However, the zombie wolf grants players a special buff to do 25% more damage against undead enemies, such as Skeletons and Draugr in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Combining this combat enhancement with the Necromage Perk in the Restoration Tree, players can deal a staggering 50% more damage to undead foes.

Several steps are required before the player can acquire their new Bone Wolf pet. First, the Dragonborn must complete the quest “The Man Who Cried Wolf,” given by Falk Firebeard, Jarl Elisif’s steward in Solitude. To begin the quest, players must speak to Corpulus Vinius, the owner of the Winking Skeever tavern.

To start the quest to unlock the Bone Wolf pet in Skyrim, players should talk to Corpulus, choosing the dialogue option, “Heard any rumors lately?” It may take several attempts, but they can repeat the question until he suggests the Dragonborn meet Falk Firebeard at the Blue Palace. They can then speak to the steward to receive the “The Man Who Cried Wolf” quest. The Dragonborn must then travel to Wolfskull Cave, located in the snowy foothills west of Solitude. As the dungeon is swarming with Draugr and necromancers, it is recommended for players to be equipped with gear that is enchanted with magic resistance or bonus damage against undead. After successfully interrupting the ritual to revive the Wolf Queen (Potema Septim), return to Falk and complete the quest.

How to Obtain the Bone Wolf in Skyrim

After a few in-game days, players will receive a courier letter from the steward of Solitude again, requesting that they return the Blue Palace. Speaking to Falk at this time will start The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim quest, “The Wolf Queen Awakened,” which has the Dragonborn enter the catacombs beneath the Temple of the Divines and defeat Potema’s unbound spirit and her numerous minions.

Once the Wolf Queen’s questline has been completed, players will receive another letter from the courier. Bolgeir Bearclaw, the Housecarl of Jarl Elisif, tasks the Dragonborn with slaying a devious necromancer camped nearby Folgunthur. Upon arriving, the player will encounter the necromancer and a new enemy, Bone Wolves. They will need to slay the sorcerer and his undead beasts, then loot his body. On his corpse will be a key for unlocking a nearby cage with a non-hostile Bone Wolf. Players can unlock the cage and interact with the Bone Wolf to acquire a new pet in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
