While Smithing can provide the Dragonborn with handcrafted, high-quality equipment in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Enchanting is the primary Skill for enhancing armor and weaponry with supernatural power. By leveling Enchanting and magically imbuing their gear, players will always have an advantage over their enemies, even if both parties have similar gear stats or levels. However, the road to leveling the Enchanting Skill can be challenging, as the Dragonborn seeks the best ways to progress efficiently. Fortunately, The Elder Scrolls V offers multiple ways to raise Enchanting, depending on the player’s preferred playstyle.

The first and easiest way to level Enchanting in Skyrim is by disenchanting any item that the player doesn’t plan to use. For example, it would be better for random loot such as a Steel Warhammer imbued with Frost Damage to be better disenchanted at an Arcane Enchanter, especially if the player is playing as a rogue thief. However, if players have just begun a new character who doesn’t have much loot to work with, there is a great beginner’s way to level up Enchanting quickly within the Whiterun Hold region in Skyrim.

First, players will need Transmute Mineral Ore, an Adept Alteration spell in Skyrim that can turn Iron Ore into Silver and Silver Ore into Gold. Keep in mind that it only affects ore and not metal ingots. This spell’s tome can be found in a Bandit Chief’s lair of Halted Stream Camp. The site is located northwest of the Whitewatch Tower and east of Silent Moons Camp. After learning Transmute, buy Iron Ore from vendors in Whiterun, particularly from the Warmaiden’s, and begin the transmutation process. Although this spell will use a lot of Magicka, players can use the “Wait” action to replenish their pool instantly. Use the Smelter nearby to make Skyrim Gold Ingots, and interact with the Forge to craft Gold Rings.

Guide for Leveling Enchanting Fast in Skyrim

The next step is to obtain enchantments via disenchanting loot or purchased gear. While any enchantment will do, Fortify Two-Handed is an optimal choice as it can be sold for a decent profit early on. Skyrim fans can find this enchantment in White River Watch, a bandit cavern west of Whiterun. Inside, search for the Ironhand Gauntlets, and disenchant them at Dragonsreach Arcane Enchanter to gain Fortify Two-Handed. Now, the Dragonborn will need Soul Gems to enchant all the Golden Rings they made earlier.

Soul Gems can be found abundantly out in the world, but they will often cost a fortune when purchasing them from vendors. Therefore, the next best option is to acquire Skyrim‘s Azura/Black Star Daedric Artifact, which lets players collect souls endlessly for enchanting. However, players may not wish to do the entire leveled questline tied to the Star. Alternatively, purchase a Flawed Varla Stone from the Khajiit Caravan that occasionally camps outside Whiterun’s gates. While it comes at a high price of 1,000 gold, it is an excellent investment for leveling Enchanting, as it can hold trapped souls and not be consumed upon use.

On a final note, late to mid-game players can use Skyrim Skill Books to level their Enchanting Skill. This method comes in handy, particularly around Levels 80-100. Remember to apply the benefits of the Mage or Lover Standing Stones. It is possible to combine both of their bonuses for +35% XP gain for Enchanting by completing the Skyrim quest “Lost to the Ages” and obtaining the Aetherial Crown.
