Skyrim Player Discovers Very Rare Cow Encounter After Years of Playing

A player of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has shared their encounter with a painted cow, a rare scene with multiple outcomes missed by many players and previously unseen by the fan, despite having playing the game for years. Skyrim recently received its new-generation upgrade, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players now diving into the classic Bethesda adventure once again and discovering everything the game has to offer.

Skyrim is recognized as one of the most popular RPGs of all time, and a steady slew of rereleases as well as fan-made mods have helped keep the game at the forefront of the gaming zeitgeist. Redditor RazcullUk has demonstrated just how vast and deep Skyrim is by sharing their encounter with a painted cow, one they’ve not previously seen “despite playing for years” (via ComicBook). The user took to the game’s subreddit to share an in-game image of the painted cow, writing: “Never encountered the before […] If I talk to the farmer he explains he’s sacrificing his painted cow to the giants. I followed him and they killed him and the cow ran off.” Asking others if they’d ever seen the encounter, players shared their stories, with many noting they’d missed the scene entirely while others stated that they’d found the encounter, but had a different outcome with the cow offering accepted.

The strange Skyrim phenomenon has seen over 7,000 upvotes at the time of writing, with many surprised not only at the rare encounter, but also at its multiple outcomes. Many Redditors noted on the post that they’d never seen the cow accepted by the Giants, while others questioned why such a small game feature should have different “endings” at all. It’s possible that the painted cow was part of a scrapped quest, with some of the scripts left in the game. Whether players have never before seen the farmer and his cow, or have only just learned that Giants can either accept or reject the offering, the Skyrim discovery is one that’s already surprised countless players with plenty more likely to have missed the scenes entirely.

The fact that Skyrim is now a decade old and still has discoveries unknown to many of its players is a testament to Bethesda’s world design. While many are likely to have come across the painted cow and its different outcomes, the Reddit post shows that there are lots of fans who’ve yet to come across the side-story in their own games.
