A doting Skyrim parent who decided to gift their in-game child with a dagger saw their kindness backfire when they were immediately stabbed by their son. Adoption is a feature added with Skyrim’s Hearthfire DLC, which allows the Dragonborn to adopt certain children, and is available to players that have purchased a homestead or house.

The housing feature in Skyrim offers players the chance to purchase their own place to rest, store items, and visit with their virtual family in between bouts of adventuring. With the ownership of a home, players would have a place for their Housecarl and spouse to reside in, which in turn can provide food and temporary buffs for the player. Housing was expanded upon with the addition of the Hearthfire DLC, adding the ability for players to build and design their own homestead, along with the option to expand their family via adoption. While these features were impressive in in the 2010s, there are still many ways which TheElder Scrolls 6 could improve housing.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user Miserabell shared a clip of their unfortunate parenting experience in Skyrim after gifting their in-game son, Alesan, a Daedric Dagger of Petrifying. The dagger, as its name suggests, includes an added effect which has a chance of paralyzing its target for 6 seconds, something that the Redditor quickly experienced for themselves. Upon thanking Miserabell for the present, Alesan retreated to his room. Curious to see what he was up to with his new gift, the Redditor entered Alesan’s room only to be immediately stabbed by their child, falling like a rock onto the floor due to the knife’s paralyzing effect. Hilariously, Alesan did not seem to notice that he had paralyzed his parent and continued to enthusiastically swing his new dagger around.

Fortunately for Miserabell, the dagger was not one of Skyrim’s most powerful Daedric artifacts, which possess much more unique and potent effects in comparison to the Daedric Dagger. Many Redditors chimed in, joking that their getting stabbed is a consequence of not knocking before entering Alesan’s room. Others added that Miserabell was lucky they did not give their son Mehrunes’ Razor, a Daedric artifact that has a small chance to instantly kill an opponent with every blow.

Despite being 10 years old, the latest Elder Scrolls game continues to surprise players with unexpected encounters, with one player recently spotting a Skyrim giant riding a dragon. Miserabell’s untimely encounter with their son’s dagger, while hilarious, serves as a cautionary tale for any Skyrim parents thinking about giving their in-game or real life children anything sharp and pointy in the future.

Skyrim is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and it will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 11, 2021.
