Since 2018, Bethesda has partnered with Modiphius Entertainment to develop an official board game for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and today, the project finally starts its crowdfunding campaign. While this is not the first Elder Scrolls board game made by Modiphius, it’s likely the most exciting. The game has accrued more than 26,000 followers on its Gamefound draft page alone, and it’s set to bring one of the most popular video games ever released to tabletops.

It was first announced in February of this year that the Skyrim board game crowdfunding wouldn’t be on Kickstarter, but instead come to Gamefound. Now, excited Elder Scrolls fans will finally get the chance to back the project and see it come to life. Board games based on video games have gradually cemented a significant place within the gaming industry as a whole, often attracting hundreds of thousands of dollars so that players of the digital version can experience some of their favorite worlds all over again, but this time with friends and family.

With the Gamefound page for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The Adventure Game finally up, followers can finally see some of the finer details to be expected and back the project by pre-ordering the Base, Gameplay, or Deluxe tiers. A release window of summer 2022 has also been specified. The board game should carry a lot of the charm of Skyrim, considering that it’s expected to have two campaigns, each with many different branching paths and encounters. The board also changes as the game is played because of player choices and other factors. Another staple in The Elder Scrolls games is weird and unique NPC interactions, which will also be included.

The base game will include six “lavishly detailed plastic miniatures based on iconic Elder Scrolls races like the Khajiit, High Elf, and Nord…” as well as many different cards representing encounters, upgrades, followers, cities, equipment, and more. Naturally, the Dawnguard and Ashes expansion packs come with several more cards and pieces that help enhance the experience and widen the possibilities even further. It appears The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim  – The Adventure Game will attempt a balancing act of giving players an exciting amount of freedom while still being more limited than other tabletop RPGs with complex rules like Dungeons & Dragons.

This represents yet another expansion of the world of Skyrim, a world that sank its claws into players when it was released in 2011 and hasn’t let go since. Bethesda announced Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition, which hits store shelves in just over a week, but the game has undergone remasters, ports, mods, and now multiple tabletop versions to keep it alive. Meanwhile, the most fans have gotten in terms of The Elder Scrolls VI news is a logo reveal in 2018.

Hopefully, the Skyrim board game will help quench the thirst for more Elder Scrolls until the sixth installment of the franchise arrives. The beauty, though, is that it’s not meant to be a replacement or a holdover for the unannounced Elder Scrolls VI. Instead, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim  – The Adventure Game will get to be its own, unique experience that brings Skyrim from screen to table. The game has a lot of expectations to live up to next summer.
