An updated website domain suggests there may be some merit to recent rumors that Sly Cooper 5 is in development. Recent Sly Cooper rumors began making the rounds earlier this month, courtesy of reliable leaker AccountNGT. According to the insider, Sony has its sights set on reviving both Sly Cooper and InFamous – both of which were originally created by Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch Productions in the PS2 and PS3 eras, respectively. Whether or not Sucker Punch will lead the charge on these alleged projects remains publicly unknown.

Hopes were high that Sony would unveil the rumored titles during yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast. Of course, no such announcements occured. PlayStation Studios, in general, enjoyed a minimal presence during the 20-minute event, with only Finnish developer Housemarque taking center stage for a brief period of time to showcase an upcoming free update for Returnal. As such, the wait for a hopeful Sly Cooper 5 reveal persists and, interestingly enough, recent developments indicate the wait could come to an end sooner rather than later.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user Thorites (via GameRant) stumbled across website changes through Whois, pointing to the slycooper.com domain receiving an update several days ago on March 4. The organization attached to the updated domain is, unsurprisingly, none other than Sly Cooper creator Sucker Punch Productions. Admittedly, this may not amount to much in the grand scheme of things; yet, that hasn’t stopped series faithful from expressing hope that everyone’s favorite raccoon could mount a return in the not-too-distant future. The Reddit post from Thorites reads as follows:

It does seem long past due for Sly’s return. The last Sucker Punch-developed title, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, hit PS2 in 2005. While a Sly Cooper-starring game did land on PS3, Sucker Punch did not take part in its production. Instead, Sony allowed California-based studio Sanzaru Games to take over for the fourth mainline entry, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, which swung into stores in early 2013.

While Sony’s interest in exploring a potential Sly Cooper 5 remains unknown for the time being, the company has shown it wants to adapt the character into other mediums of entertainment. A Sly Cooper animated series was once in the works, for instance, though details about its distribution went cold a few years ago. And despite the founding of production studio PlayStation Productions, and the recent success of the Tom Holland-starring Uncharted film, there’s currently nothing to suggest the Sly show will ever see the light of day in any official manner.
