Smash Bros.: Every Sora Fighter Costume, Ranked Worst To Best

Sora has been revealed as the final DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and with him comes a colorful array of costumes straight out of the Kingdom Hearts series. Every Sora fighter costume ends up equaling eight total appearances, including the default KH1 outfit as seen in the reveal trailer. Here’s which are the least to most impressive among them.

The final “Mr. Sakurai Presents” was announced during September’s Nintendo Direct and promised the reveal of the final DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. On October 5, Sora from Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts series was officially confirmed as the most recent DLC character in the game. According to the reveal trailer, he was the most highly voted character among fans of the Super Smash Bros. series.

Throughout the Kingdom Hearts series, Sora sports a variety of different costumes. Many of these provided inspiration to the developers of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Sora’s alternate appearances as a Smash Bros. fighter mirror his changing outfits from one Kingdom Hearts game to another. Despite that, the face and body shape remains the same across every Sora fighter costume, as is the case with most of the alt costumes seen in Super Smash Bros.

Kingdom Hearts 2’s Valor Form

Sora’s Drive Forms, as introduced in Kingdom Hearts 2, give him different abilities when utilized in combat. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, however, they only serve an aesthetic purpose. Given they’re essentially just his KH2 costume recolored, there’s nothing particularly noteworthy about these costumes, making Valor Form one of the least impressive of every Sora fighter costume.

Kingdom Hearts 2’s Wisdom Form

Wisdom Form suffers from the same thing Valor Form does, changing his Kingdom Hearts 2 outfit to be bluer without otherwise providing any impressive distinctions. Of course, both are still a fun call back to the Kingdom Hearts games as well as a reminder of the wide range of unique abilities Sora possesses.

Kingdom Hearts 3’s Ultimate Form

Ultimate Form is introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3 and bears striking similarities to KH2‘s Final Form, adorning Sora in a white-and-black color scheme with stripes and crowns serving as accents. In the Kingdom Hearts games, it’s triggered by utilizing the Ultima Weapon and allows for unique and useful abilities such as teleporting. In Super Smash Bros., it’s unfortunately a little less impressive.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Sora

Also included are several of Sora’s outfits from different games in the series, including Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. This costume is relatively similar to his KH1 and KH2 appearances, being overwhelmingly red and black with a distinctive X across his chest. It brings together two of Sora’s most iconic looks from the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Sora

Sora’s Kingdom Hearts 3 outfit is the most recent one to be introduced in the series, debuting when KH3 came out in early 2019. This costume is primarily black and red with flannel patterns on the inside of the jacket, and it stands in sharp contrast to the more bright and colorful look that’s seen in Sora’s default Super Smash Bros. costume.

Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora

Kingdom Hearts 2 is arguably the most popular game in the Kingdom Hearts series, and Sora’s outfit in KH2 is iconic even now. It brings a wider range of colors to the character as compared to KH1, toning down some of the more cartoonish aspects of the outfit to provide one of the more mature-looking options out of every Sora fighter costume, one that feels perfect for the Super Smash Bros. universe.

Kingdom Hearts 1: Default Sora

Introduced as Sora’s default costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, his Kingdom Hearts 1 appearance may be what the character is best known for. His oversized shoes and bright red and yellow color scheme are meant to emulate the classic Disney characters he’s often seen with throughout the Kingdom Hearts series, and it helps bring his distinctive cheery personality to life in Super Smash Bros. as well.

Kingdom Hearts 2’s Timeless River

Sora’s Timeless River form is a unique appearance utilized in just one world of Kingdom Hearts 2, but despite its scarcity, it’s one of his most noteworthy transformations in the series due to how strongly it resembles early Mickey Mouse cartoons. It’s the most distinctive of the costumes introduced alongside the character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well, standing out clearly among Sora’s usual saturated color schemes.
