A YouTuber has envisioned Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s Sora literally beating Waluigi in order to become the last DLC fighter in the Nintendo brawler. After months of speculation, Kingdom Hearts‘ Sora was confirmed as the final character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s roster of fighters, leaving the dreams of Waluigi fans shattered.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released in 2018 and has since been adding new characters by the way of additional DLC packs. As well as introducing famous faces from first-party Nintendo titles, the game has branched out to welcome some of the most popular figures in gaming from a host of different games and studios. Persona 5‘s Joker, Minecraft‘s Steve and Alex, and Final Fantasy‘s Sephiroth have all previously joined the game, leaving the door wide open for fan speculation over who the last Super Smash Bros. fighter might be. Hopes were high for fan-favorite Waluigi, but Kingdom Hearts fans have scooped the win.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

YouTuber aerosouthpaws has pitted Sora against Waluigi in a fan video with Sora coming out as the clear winner. The hilarious fight shows poor Waluigi taking a beating from Sora and his Keyblade, complete with Waluigi’s signature “Wah” cries. In the video’s description, aerosouthpaws references Sora beating Waluigi to the punch as the official final Smash fighter, writing simply: “Basically what happened today.” The YouTube video has amassed over 100,000 views at the time of writing, with the creator telling viewers in a pinned comment: “Apologies to Waluigi fans. It was a cruel joke.

Waluigi fans have shared their commiserations in the video’s comments, with those who’ve been campaigning for Waluigi to join Super Smash Bros. sadly out of the luck. The often-overlooked arch-rival of Luigi may be a fan-favorite playable character in games like Super Mario Party and Mario Tennis Aces, but Sora has beaten him at the final Smash hurdle. While many are disappointed to see Waluigi overlooked by Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai, Sora’s reveal as the final Smash DLC fighter was a resounding success across social media, with Sora’s name trending alongside the game title even hours after the news broke.

Sora may complete the list of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters, but there’s still hope for Waluigi fans. As one of Nintendo’s most lucrative and popular series, another Super Smash Bros. release could be planned for the future, though nothing has yet been confirmed by the company. With Wario recently getting a new WarioWare release for Nintendo Switch, it’s about time Waluigi saw some similar appreciation from Nintendo.
