Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s line-up of Spirit Events will cycle back and begin anew starting later this month. Beginning as far back as 2018 and running all the way until later this week, these Spirit events were held weekly and enabled players to unlock Spirits and themes from various other Nintendo titles and themes by having them play under modified stage or character conditions.

These Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Events have consisted of crossovers with titles like Cuphead, as well as throwbacks to older Nintendo consoles and systems like the N64 and Game Boy Color. There have also been Spirit Events to celebrate holidays like Halloween, as well as comical ones centered around characters with shiny teeth or whose in-game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sprites feature a raised fist. The final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Event will be held this Friday and will be centered around planes, trains, and spaceships.

According to Destructoid, after this final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Event concludes on November 15, Nintendo is going to begin reusing old Spirit Events from as far back as three years ago. A post on Super Smash Bros Ultimate’s official Japanese Twitter account confirmed as much yesterday, stating that “spirit events and tournament events will be re-held from some of the past events.” This is a common practice among multiplayer games that feature a live-service model for online content, such as Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.

This news comes right as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s wave of additional single-player content has winded down, with Kingdom Hearts’ Sora being revealed as the final guest Smash Bros Ultimate DLC character last month. Now that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster of heroes, villains, and mascots from across gaming is complete, series creator Masahiro Sakurai has remained tight-lipped on what his future plans might be – though he’s hinted that the Super Smash Bros. franchise might return someday, noting that his involvement would likely be essential if the series continues.

It isn’t clear if Nintendo is going to replay Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s line of Spirit events from the very beginning or instead shuffle them and run them through at random, but it might be a cool way for players who missed out on these Spirit Events when they were initially held to check them out. After all, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has provided fans with a large amount of unforgettable content since it first launched back in 2018, even as fans look ahead to what might be in store next for Nintendo’s epic crossover fighting series.
