Clearing the cache for any app, including Snapchat, is a way to free up space on a device and can even help to fix some performance issues when they surface. While there has been a recent increase in attention on how much user data an app has access to, these apps also collect and store data locally on device, making clearing the cache a useful feature.

A smartphone can be used for so many purposes beyond making phone calls and just like when a phone call records a log of the calls, apps also tend to make similar recordings for various reasons, including improving the experience by loading elements faster and retaining preferences. However, all of these data points collected by an app need to be stored somewhere and, in most cases, that’s locally on the device, consuming storage space in the process.

Most smartphones come with a very clear limit on the amount of space available for downloading apps, storing photos and for app data. Some of the data collected is stored on a permanent basis while some of it is only stored temporarily. Clearing the cache of an app like Snapchat clears temporary storage data, making it a good way to instantly free up space for the app and for the device in general. For reference, as clearing a cache only clears the temporary data, it won’t affect data related to the user’s account. In Snapchat’s case, this also means it won’t affect chat data, Snaps or Memories.

How To Clear Snapchat App Cache

Snapchat includes a feature directly with the app making it super easy to clear the cache. To perform the clearance, tap on the profile icon in the top-left corner and then on the cog icon to launch the Settings menu. From there, scroll down and tap on the Clear Cache option under Account Actions. If using an Android phone, simply tap on Continue, while iPhone users will need to tap on Clear All instead. Once done, the cache will be cleared, freeing up additional space on the device.

While Snapchat provides this option directly within the app, both Android and iOS platforms also include their own ability to clear the cache within a device’s settings menu. Similar to how it works with Snapchat, Android and iOS users can perform a cache clearance for any app to help free up space on a device. In cases where an app happens to be performing poorly, a clearing of the cache can sometimes help to resolve the issue. Whether using an Android or iOS device, and whether it is for Snapchat or any other app, the option to clear cache can be found in the Apps section of the settings.
