When a comic runs for more than 20 years, there are bound to be some questionable moments inside. In the case of the Sonic The Hedgehog comics, the wild range of quality has led to some serious WTF moments that have been remembered long after they were originally published.

Sonic The Hedgehog comics, based on the popular Sega video game series, was originally published by Archie Comics from 1998 to 2016 and has been published by IDW since 2018. While there are some excellent stories within Sonic’s comic universe, longtime writer Ken Penders (who famously sued Archie Comics) and a series of artists have done some questionable, inconsistent things as well. Sometimes, characters will look completely different and other times, their personalities change without notice. Like Archie Comics before it, Sonic the Hedgehog also had its fair share of WTF, out of context moments – which are especially funny considering these comics are meant for kids. Here are some of the best we could find.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Sonic encounters Dr. Robotnik (who’s teeth are weirdly massive) and tells him that “not even yo mama would kiss that ugly puss of yours!” Let’s hope he’s referring to his mustache.

Here’s Tails taking a bullet (or an egg of some sort?) right to the groin.

An angry Knuckles once tried to exact some payback by trying to revive spanking.

Here’s anti-Sonic pretending to be the actual sonic while napping with Bunnie D’Coolette. The wink on anti-Sonic’s face is concerning.

That time Charmy Bee ate a drug-filled Chilli dog and was tripping. He wants to take a trip to the “center of [his] mind.”

One of the most bizarre drawings of Sonic comes from the Archie series “Sonic Live” which was a video game tie-in that was absolutely horrifying.

Nothing like a romantic gaze between a mobian chipmunk and a human boy. The boy could win an award for creepiest, deadest smile.

Dr. Robotnik gets quite the surprise when he learns that Sonic was let into a “special zone” he should be in. Robotnik does a spit-take at the news.

Tails was once offered the chance to assassinate Doctor Robotnik. In quite the moral conundrum, he was handed a sniper rifle and told he could free the world of Robotnik’s hold.

These out of context panels are hilarious and show that even in a kid’s comic like Sonic The Hedgehog, there were some serious WTF moments going on. Thankfully, the quality of the comics wasn’t super important for most kids as long as there was a fun adventure to be had – but for adults, some moments were certainly questionable – seriously, who thought Tails holding a gun in a comic was a good idea?
