Though Disney is the biggest player in the animation game, it’s not the only studio churning out entertaining films in this category. Sony Pictures Animaton Inc., which is the animation division owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, has been creating feature-length movies since its conception in 2002. We’re here now to focus on the best films that this studio has put into the world. To do this, we’ll be turning to IMDb for answers.

The popular entertainment website has assigned every film created by Sony a star rating based on the votes of registered users, on a scale of 1 to 10. This is what we’ll be using to stack them all up.

With the logistics out of the way, it’s time to blast through movie past; Here are the best-animated films from Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to IMDb.

10 Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (6.4)

The 2013 sequel to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs has inventor Flint Lockwood and the rest of the gang attempting to save the town of Chewandswallow from the animal-food hybrids that are coming out of the revived FLDSMDFR machine.

Though this new sci-fi story couldn’t live up to the creativity of the original, it was still plenty entertaining with pretty visuals and fun characters. This left audiences content, even if they weren’t necessarily hungry for a third installment in the series.

9 The Angry Birds Movies 2 (6.4)

Though the original Angry Birds film didn’t fall under the Sony Pictures Animation label, its sequel did.

This time around, Red, Chuck, Bomb, and their friends decide to team together with the green pigs after they learn of a new group of birds that harbor a dangerous weapon.

8 Peter Rabbit (6.5)

The tales of Peter Rabbit, written by Beatrix Potter, were brought to the big screen in 2018.

Combining computer-animated characters with a live-action setting, this story told of a family of rabbits that enjoy peacefully living out life in Mr. McGregor’s garden. After McGregor ends up dying of a heart attack, however, the bunnies are forced to deal with the schemes of the owner’s great-nephew.

The film’s light-hearted fun had it gaining a considerable audience. Because of this, Peter Rabbit is set to get a sequel in 2020.

7 The Pirates! Band Of Misfits (6.7)

This British-American stop-motion animation, based loosely on The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists book, tells of a group of pirates who try to win the Pirate of the Year competition by plundering the most treasure.

The 2012 film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, with critics enjoying the artful visuals and smart script.

6 Hotel Transylvania 2 (6.7)

The Hotel Transylvania franchise received a strong, comedic sequel in 2015.

Beginning seven years after the events of the original, Hotel Transylvania 2 sees Mavis and Johnny caring for their child, Dennis. Though Drac is happy to be a grandfather, he’s concerned by Dennis’ lack of vampire powers. The situation becomes more complicated after his stuck-in-his-ways dad, Vlad, decides to show up at the hotel.

Though critics didn’t think the film lived up to the creativity of the original, viewers were happy with the fun gags and colorful animations.

2 Hotel Transylvania (7.1)

The newest addition to the group is Miles Morales, a black-Latino teenager from Brooklyn who is adjusting to a new school, working through his layered relationship with his dad, and — now — fighting off the evil Kingpin who hopes to revive his dead family.

The film was a critical and box office success with the animation style, humor, voice work, and more receiving a round of applause. This had the movie earning the Best Animated Feature award at the Oscars last award season.
