After the success of The Real Housewives franchise, Vanderpump Rules, and Shahs of Sunset, Bravo added a new kind of reality TV show to its roster based in the South — Southern Charm. The show focuses on a group of close friends living their lives in Charleston, South Carolina, as they find a balance between work and play.

The show was an instant success and wrapped up season 7 in 2020. However, while the group of friends is entertaining, there are plenty of fans who took their opinions to Reddit to share their most liked (and disliked) cast members and unpopular opinions.

8 Landon & Thomas Were Never Really Together

At the end of season 3, Kathryn was under the impression that something fishy was going on between Landon and Thomas. And while they denied any wrongdoing, they appeared to have feelings for each other by the time season 4 rolled around. Thomas was looking for a wife and someone to help with his step-children, and Landon seemed interested in the adventure.

However, Huncamuncamouse told Reddit, “I don’t think Landon hooked up with Thomas; it was just a stupid storyline to piss off [Kathryn].” But considering how invested Landon was in a prosperous future with Thomas, it would be surprising if their bond was fake.

7 Leva Wasn’t Good Casting

Fans agree that Southern Charm was in desperate need of some diversity. Bravo finally listened and cast Leva Bonaparte as a full-time cast member in season 7. As a friend of Cameran’s, Leva was already familiar with the group and fit right in. With Leva around, fans were hoping this would be the best season of Southern Charm yet.

But Redditor CandiceCamera was one of the few who disliked Leva. “She is being a bully and keeps denying it,” they wrote. Because of Leva’s desire to shake up the crew’s comfort zone, some fans rebelled. Another fan wrote that they’re not a fan of Leva because “She brings up the Kathryn thing every time she’s on-screen,” which seemed like she had an agenda.

6 Ashley Jacobs Was Perfect

Ashely Jacobs appeared in season 5 as Thomas’s latest girlfriend. She moved to Charleston from California and was hoping to start a new life with Thomas as the future Mrs. Ravenel. The only problem was that she was intimidated by Thomas’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend and baby mama, Kathryn Dennis. Ashely acted like she was the most intelligent out of the group and belittled the entire cast while trying to make a place for herself in the group.

But as cruel as she was to others, out of jealousy, some fans liked her. BestBodyBuilder7329 wrote, “She was perfect in every way…I could never understand ppl wanting her fired, if I was part of the cast I would’ve invited her to everything.” This is definitely an unpopular opinion.

5 The Show Needs A Brand New Cast

Most of the cast from season 1 is still a part of season 7. This is mainly because the group is friends in real life and hangs out outside of filming.

But regardless of the natural dramatic moments the cast brings, Redditor Bbjenn thinks the show needs a recast: “I’ve come to dislike almost everyone on Southern Charm and don’t really care that much if it comes back,” they wrote. However, most fans would agree that a show without Shep, Craig, Austen, and Kathryn isn’t the same show.

4 Cameran Is Boring

Just as the case is with The Real HousewivesSouthern Charm also has one cast member that the audience can relate to. In Southen Charm, Cameran Eubanks was that person. She was married, had a great career, and protected her husband from the spotlight. She had a good head on her shoulders for reality TV.

However, some found her presence pointless. Butter_Dog22 wrote, “Cam is incredibly boring to watch.” Oddly, Cam was very much the voice of reason and always involved in the group’s arguments, making her anything but boring.

3 Patricia Has To Go

Patricia Altschul is the most unique member of Southern Charm. As Whitney’s mother, Patricia is shown as Charleston royalty. She’s wealthy, knows everyone, and teaches life lessons every season. In a lot of ways, she acts as the group’s mom, mentor, and boss.

Many fans aspire to be their own version of Patricia, but Redditor Shortmk thinks otherwise. “An unpopular opinion but I really do not like Patricia, never have, never will, do not understand why she’s on this show at all,” they wrote on Reddit.

2 Shep & His Behavior Towards Women

Shep Rose has been a part of the series since season 1 and is known for his womanizing ways. It’s an ongoing storyline of Shep’s that he doesn’t want to grow up and give into marriage. This has cast a Romeo-like persona on his character. And sadly, the way he treats women isn’t always great and he can, at times, treat women like they’re disposable on the show. If he meant to join the show as a playboy, he understood the assignment.

However, Reddit user Sk0ooba thinks the opposite of most fans. “This is probably unpopular, but I think he’s more respectful to women than most of the other men. They go on to qualify their statement, though, by continuing, “… which is a super low bar.”

1 Danni Baird Is Annoying

Danni Baird was never a main cast member of Southern Charm but she certainly has been a part of the series as a friend since the early days. Season 7 was her biggest season, having more screentime than ever before. Because of how sweet and quiet Danni can be, her points of view are beloved by fans — but not all.

This_Itches wrote, “I’ve always been annoyed by Dani.” Another fan wrote how much they disliked the fact that Danni “obsesses over Kathryn,” due to their hot and cold friendship.
