Cameran Eubanks is a Southern Charm alum who is opening up about why she stopped breastfeeding her daughter Palmer after only three months. The mother of one defends her decision in her new book, One Day You’ll Thank Me: Essays on Dating, Motherhood, and Everything In Between.

Early last year, Cameran announced that she wouldn’t be returning for Southern Charm season 7. After being a full-time cast member since season one, Cameran Eubanks decided to depart. She was no longer enjoying the fame that came with doing the show. Hours before she announced her exit, rumors about her husband Jason Wimberly began to surface. The rumor was that Jason had been unfaithful to Cameran and the rumors were going to be brought up during the upcoming season. Cameran assured fans that the rumors had nothing to do with her exit, as the decision to leave had been made months before. Her time away from the show made it possible for her to begin (and then finish) her new book.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Cameran got candid when she spoke about not breastfeeding her daughter for the sake of her mental health. “It was tough because I had this oversupply of milk, and it was never an issue of not having enough but it was making me depressed,” the 37-year-old revealed to the publication. She added, “I started thinking to myself, having a happy mentally sane mother is ultimately more important than [my daughter, Palmer,] getting breast milk. I never even drank breast milk and I’m totally fine.” Cameran knows some mothers may disagree with her choice, but she feels that formula is a good alternative to breast milk. In a February 2018 Instagram post, Cameran admitted that she is done with breastfeeding and is officially “retiring the boobs,” after three months. See her post below:

The former reality star knew that she would get some backlash for giving Palmer formula instead of breast milk, but she didn’t care. Switching to formula gave her the freedom back. This was something she needed for her sanity, and she has not looked back. She hoped that by sharing this news with her followers, other mothers would realize that there is no shame in not wanting to breastfeed anymore. As for whether she plans on having more children in the future, it does not seem likely. Her daughter has even said to her that she wants to be “the only baby” in the family. Cameran then joked, “Praise Jesus. That is the correct answer.”

Cameran’s new book, which was released on Tuesday, February 2, aims to help women in all stages of life to go with their intuition. Southern Charm fans may want to check out, One Day You’ll Thank Me: Essays on Dating, Motherhood, and Everything In Between.
