Spider-Man 3 has been allowed to start filming in Atlanta schools even though the school buildings have been shut down to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Tom Holland and fellow crew members recently arrived in Atlanta to start production on the new Spider-Man’s next installment. This time, Jamie Foxx’s Electro joined the recurring cast, which is a pivotal move for the future of the MCU universe, opening it up for more non-MCU Marvel movie characters to appear.

The pandemic has had a massive influence on the film industry this year and will probably forever shape it. Many TV shows that have returned to production have pivoted their newest seasons to include episodes about the pandemic. Even though many productions have returned to set under strict health guidelines, things have not been smooth sailing. A few months ago, Robert Pattinson tested positive for the virus, shutting down The Batman mid-production. During the filming of Scream 5, they continued shooting even after multiple crew members tested positive. Given the difficulties productions have had filming during the pandemic so far, as the Spider-Man 3 team travels to Atlanta, they are indeed facing major safety concerns during production.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Spider-Man 3 team has been approved for filming in Atlanta schools that have been shut down due to COVID-19. The production team acquired special permission from the Atlanta Public Schools district, which closed more than eight months ago due to growing concerns about the virus’s spread. Previously, the schools had been closed for filming purposes. However, the Spider-Man team is the first to be exempt from this restriction after the movie’s location manager offered the district $50,000 for access to two school campuses. This development allows Spider-Man 3 to return to the same locations that were used in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

As cases are rising dramatically across the nation, hopefully, the Spider-Man team is prepared to protect their production team while in Atlanta. The opening up of the schools for production for the first time since the spring is a positive sign for the Atlanta film scene’s return, which has been on lockdown since the spring. Although Tom Holland and the Spider-Man team are understandably ecstatic to pick up production in Atlanta, if the safety threats are not handled properly, they could pose unforeseen consequences to the production.

Even with the challenges facing the filming of Spider-Man 3, fans are ready to discover the resolution to the intense cliffhanger that concluded Spider-Man: Far From Home. As they start filming in Atlanta, more details about the next installment will be revealed. Although Tom Holland is notorious for spoilers, he promised he wouldn’t reveal too many details this time around. As of right now, the film’s release date is scheduled for December 17, 2021. If the production team behind Spider-Man 3 can prevent any health-related delays on-set, then hopefully, fans can expect this exciting new installment next year.
