The Silver Surfer and Spider-Man become one merged hero in a stunning new variant cover from artist Rod Reis. As part of Marvel’s 60th-anniversary celebrations of Spider-Man, several heroes and villains are getting a new Spider-Man twist. Rod Reis’s art features Peter Parker getting the Power Cosmic and his own surfboard, becoming the former Herald of Galactus. The new costume gives Spider-Man a new silver look, which looks great as he uses his new powers in the variant cover.

Spider-Man is turning 60 at Marvel Comics, with the hero’s first appearance occurring in 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15 by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby. Six decades after he first spun his web, Spider-Man is still among Marvel’s most famous heroes, as he’s starred in numerous comics, television, and film franchises. His 60th-anniversary celebrations will feature a handful of variant covers where he takes on the role of other Marvel heroes. The covers include Spider-Thor from Declan Shalvey, Spider-Man Carnage-ized by Kyle Hotz and Alex Guimaraes, the Iron Spider-Man from Dan Jurgens, Brett Breeding, and Edgar Delgado, as well as Captain Spider-Marvel from David Baldeon and Israel Silva. In addition, Spider-Man will get a Silver Surfer costume as part of the variant covers.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Last week, Marvel Comics revealed several covers for Spider-Man’s 60th-anniversary celebrations. One of the coolest variant covers was Rod Reid turning the web-slinger into the Silver Surfer. In the image, Spider-Man wears a silver costume and rides the former Herald of Galactus’ surfboard across New York City. The cover, which will appear on Silver Surfer Rebirth #4, shows the merged hero’s new powers, as he shows off the Power Cosmic as he patrols the sky.

Spider-Man (to our knowledge) has never taken on the Power Cosmic before and become the new Silver Surfer. However, In The Spectacular Spider-Man Spider-Man #158, Peter Parker became a Captain Universe-like hero after absorbing the Uni-Power. Additionally, the Earth-13 version of Peter Parker had the powers of the Enigma Force. Cosmic Spider-Man showed what the hero would like with one of the universe’s most incredible cosmic powers.

Spider-Man knows all about great power and responsibility but giving the hero the Power Cosmic would create an entirely different hero. With a new costume, surfboard, and one of the most remarkable cosmic powers in the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man would be nearly unstoppable. But, ultimately, Peter Parker works best as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and not a cosmic juggernaut. Although, it would be cool to see Spider-Man become the Silver Surfer in an alt-universe story, as Rod Reis’ design is pretty spectacular to only use for the single variant cover.
