Spider-Man: Far From Home – 5 Characters With The Most Screentime (& 5 With The Least)

Spider-Man has now starred in three separate live-action film franchises over the years, with Tom Holland starring as the latest Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of films that include his teammates in the Avengers. 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first sequel to Homecoming and the first film to take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

This made for a packed film that dealt with a lot of different characters as Peter and his class went on a European trip that was interrupted by Mysterio’s revenge scheme against Iron Man. So how do the characters stack up against each other based on screentime (times from IMDb) in such a full movie?

10 Most: Spider-Man (67:30)

It isn’t too big of a surprise that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man takes the lead in screentime as he is the star of the film and one of the most popular characters in the MCU following the death of Iron Man in Endgame.

Peter dealt with the loss of his mentor along with the added pressure of being the only public member of the Avengers still operating in New York City, which left him susceptible to the mind games of Mysterio, who had assembled a group of like-minded individuals all eager to take out their frustrations on the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

9 Least: William Ginter Riva (2:00)

While he doesn’t have the most screen time in the film, William Ginter Riva (played by Peter Billingsley) has a long history in the MCU that dates back to 2008’s Iron Man, and he is one of the main members of Mysterio’s Tony Stark Revenge Squad.

Riva’s past working with Obadiah Stane to replicate Stark’s technology was briefly explored and his technical expertise was instrumental in not only running Mysterio’s high-tech holographic illusion but also his final attack on Spider-Man that revealed his secret identity to the Daily Bugle, and the world.

8 Most: Mysterio (21:15)

Jake Gyllenhaal starred as Quentin Beck/Mysterio, who first appeared as a multiversal hero fighting against the monstrous Elementals that destroyed his world who soon became a new ally to Spider-Man, though not everything was what it seemed.

Mysterio had over twenty minutes of screentime that allowed him to flaunt his unique abilities while bonding with the young hero in order to gain his trust and steal Tony Stark’s final gift to Peter – the orbital drone fleet controlled by E.D.I.T.H. that Beck and his team modified with their tech to help with their ongoing revenge scheme.

7 Least: Dimitri (1:30)

One of the more mysterious characters that appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home was Dimitri, played by Numan Acar, who worked with Fury/Talos as one of his agents who kept a close eye on Spider-Man’s tour group.

However, the character’s name led many fans to assume this would be the introduction of Dimitri Smerdyakov/The Chameleon, though unless there are more plans for Dimitri in the upcoming third film in the MCU franchise than he’ll remain at a minute and a half of screentime in the MCU.

6 Most: Michelle Jones (19:30)

Zendaya returned as Michelle Jones/MJ, who Peter hoped to get close to during their class trip in Europe before Nick Fury took over and Spider-Man was needed to save the world from the Elementals, putting a damper on his plans.

MJ was slowly putting together the fact that he was secretly Spider-Man, and found a piece of Mysterio’s broken tech that ultimately revealed to Peter that he was the enemy all along. MJ then helped save her friends and Happy Hogan from Mysterio’s drones before sharing a tender moment, and later a terrifying swing with her new boyfriend.

5 Least: Jason Ionello (0:45)

Jorge Lendeborg Jr. played Jason Ionello, a classmate of Peter’s who was also the co-host of Midtown News with Betty Brant that was also blipped away by Thanos in Infinity War, which resulted in his younger brother now being older than him.

The character of Jason Ionello first appeared in the pages of Untold Tales of Spider-Man, which explored the early days of Peter Parker’s career as Spider-Man and fleshed out his cast of characters. Jason was a popular prankster and friend of Flash Thompson who idolized and then developed a grudge against Spider-Man.

4 Most: Ned Leeds (14:30)

The character of Ned Leeds was played by Jacob Batalon and was actually an amalgamation of a couple of characters from two different versions of Spider-Man that led to a bit of mystery when the role was first revealed in Homecoming.

While he basically adapts the Ultimate Spider-Man‘s Ganke Lee, he uses the name of Daily Bugle reporter and one-time Hobgoblin Ned Leeds, though he serves as Peter’s best friend, confidante, and short-lived paramour to Betty Brant throughout the course of Far From Home, not to mention the one who named the infamous Night Monkey.

3 Least: Nick Fury (0:30)

While Nick Fury actually appears in the film for almost nine minutes and is responsible for bringing Spider-Man and Mysterio together while moving Peter’s class trip around Europe, the final post-credit scene revealed that Fury was actually Talos, the shape-changing Skrull from Captain Marvel. 

The real Nick Fury managed to log in around 30 seconds of screentime, though the reveal that he was working in space alongside other Skrulls while Talos covered for him on Earth made for an impressive tease at the possible next phases of the MCU.

2 Most: Betty Brant (9:15)

Angourie Rice was the second person to bring the character of Betty Brant to the big screen, though this version was included among Peter Parker’s classmates, instead of her usual comic origins as a Daily Bugle staff member and brief love interest of Peter Parker.

Betty’s news reporter origin was left intact though modified as she worked alongside Jason Ionello as hosts of Midtown News, and her short-lived romance with Ned during Far From Home referenced their comic marriage before his death, though it has turned out better for both of them in the MCU so far.

1 Least: J. Jonah Jameson (0:15)

Every Marvel Studios film since 2008’s Iron Man has included some form of a post-credit scene or teaser, and Far From Home featured two end-credit scenes that teased both the next film in the franchise as well as a look into the still-unknown future of the MCU.

However, one of the standouts of both scenes was the return of J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, who reprised his role from the previous Sam Raimi-directed trilogy for a mere 15 seconds of screentime that fans are still talking about.
