New Spider-Man: Far From Home concept art shows that Molten Man could have looked completely different. Far From Home takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, with Peter Parker (Tom Holland) still reeling from Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) death. Peter is recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to help fight the Elementals, although he soon finds himself at the center of Mysterio’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) nefarious plans.

Spider-Man and Mysterio team up to fight Molten Man in Prague, where the two struggle to gain the upper hand against the enormous Elemental monster. Mysterio eventually “defeats” Molten Man by flying inside the creature and destroying it from within. While Peter initially believes that Mysterio is a hero, he later discovers that Molten Man is just another one of Mysterio’s illusions.

Artist Jerad S. Marantz showcases some amazing concept art on Instagram that shows Molten Man with three arms. Marantz reveals an early version of Molten Man with pieces of debris embedded into his back. Marantz has also captured Molten Man in mid-roar, making him every bit as terrifying as he was in Far From Home. In addition, the artist adds in his caption that his original design can actually still be found in an unspecified video game. You can check out Marantz’s cool vision of Molten Man below:

Here’s some fun design sketches for the #moltenman from #spidermanfarfromhome . I did a bunch of these options when I was trying to hone in on the design. They’re all within the same theme with subtle differences. Fun fact: originally my design had three arms and a lot of metal bits and debris in the character. It made it in as intended in one of the video games, but changed a little bit in the film. That’s the thing about designing CG characters… Even when the designs approved, they can change by the time they get to screen. #mcu #sketches #creaturedesign #conceptart #spiderman #peterparker #mysterio #spidey #photoshop

While Molten Man isn’t as well known as some of Spider-Man’s other adversaries, he’s still appeared in quite a few Spider-Man comic books. More specifically, Molten Man was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #28 as scientist Mark Raxton. After an accident with liquid alloy, Raxton’s skin absorbs the material, transforming him into Molten Man. That being said, while more casual Spider-Man fans may not have heard of Molten Man, longtime comic book followers were no doubt excited to see him appear in Far From Home, even if he was revealed to just be an illusion.

This isn’t the first time Marantz has shared sketches of characters he’s helped designed in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In fact, he posted his original art for Hydro-Man, another Elemental that Peter battled in Europe, earlier this year. While it can often be disappointing for an artist to scrap an intended vision, it seems Marantz is taking everything in good stride. That being said, while there were some changes between Marantz’s initial thoughts on Molten Man and the finalized film version, both designs are still nothing short of absolutely stunning.
