The fake titles that were released for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 could very well be teasing the debut of the Green Goblin in the upcoming MCU film. Despite the reveal of the official title (Spider-Man: No Way Home), the possible tease still persists, and it would make sense that Marvel Studios and Sony would potentially feature some sort of real tease into their fake reveal gag. In any case, given the expectations for multiversal mayhem in the upcoming film, this tease also supports rumors about a prior version of the Green Goblin making an appearance in the film as well.

The first MCU Spider-Man film was titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was meta-reference to Spider-Man’s debut to a shared universe of heroes with Marvel Studios. Since then, an expectation was then created after the sequel was titled Spider-Man: Far From Home, seeing Peter Parker and his friends traveling to Europe. As such, theories had abounded from fans trying to guess the title of the third film, with the assumption being made that the word “Home” would somehow be featured, following suit from the first two titles. Marvel Studios and the cast of the Spider-Man films of course knew this, which is why actors Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya had fun with some good-natured trolling of fans by sharing a few fake Spider-Man 3 title reveals. Three titles were released around the same time, and were released on each of their respective Instagram pages: Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Homewrecker, and Spider-Man: Home Slice.

While having members of the cast troll fans before the official reveal is a pretty ingenious marketing strategy to build on the already present excitement and hype, the fake titles could be carrying a very real tease thanks to their combined color scheme which are green, purple, and silver. These are of course the classic colors of Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis Norman Osborn, better known as the Green Goblin. As such, this could be a tease that Osborn’s on his way and will be featured at some point in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

This potential tease for the Green Goblin’s arrival also supports the consistent rumors that a past version of a live-action Green Goblin will be featured in the film, along with other past villain actors that have since been confirmed such as actor Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina, who are expected to reprise their roles as Electro and Doctor Octopus. Likewise, these rumors have specifically mentioned actor Willem Dafoe reprising his Green Goblin role from the first live-action Spider-Man film from director Sam Raimi that Tobey Maguire as the titular webslinger.

Regardless, these fake title reveals do appear as though they’re teasing the Green Goblin in some shape or form. Perhaps it could be a whole new take on Norman Osborn altogether, but with so many other actors who’ve played past villains expected to reprise their roles, it seems logical that audiences will be seeing a past version of the Goblin as well. In any case, excitement continues to build for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will no doubt be that much more exciting if Spider-Man’s greatest foe does indeed make an appearance.
