Spider-Man: Miles Morales has an X-Men Easter egg so subtle and obscure that many likely missed it entirely. Despite being discoverable early in the game, some players who stumbled on the secret were probably unaware of it because the reference flew over their heads. Here’s how Spider-Man: Miles Morales references X-Men.

Cameos are nothing new for the Marvel’s Spider-Man saga. Insomniac stuffed its first entry in the series full of Marvel shout-outs, including a notable tearjerker of a Stan Lee cameo no one saw coming. But in Insomniac’s follow-up Spidey game, players will have to be significantly more versed in comics lore to get all of the allusions to Marvel stories. This time, the Marvel references are even more touching – and obscure. Miles Morales‘ slew of new Marvel references includes a tribute to late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, as well as less obvious secrets. What is the X-Men cameo in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, then, and how can players find it?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On November 14 post, Twitter user @FifthDream noticed Miles apparently saw a musical act called “Dazzler / Lila Cheney.” This duo is referenced early on in Spider-Man: Miles Morales; while rummaging through a repair shop for clues about the whereabouts of the mysterious organization known as the Underground, players can come across a collectible item. The collectible, a pair of ticket stubs, causes Miles to remember how he saw Dazzler in concert.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Obscure X-Men Easter Egg – Who Dazzler Is

Readers of X-Men comics will know Dazzler as mutant introduced during the Bronze Age of Comic Books. Dazzler is the superhero identity of Alison Blaire, a powerful mutant. Blaire has the ability to turn sound vibrations into light. While this has tremendous ramifications on the battlefield, Blaire has always been more interested in singing than in the costumed life. At one point, she turned down an audition with the Avengers, preferring a life of artistic expression to crimefighting, so it’s no surprise that she would wind up on stage in the canon of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

However, this reference goes even deeper. The act in question is a musical team-up straight out of the comics. Lila Cheney is a mutant herself – a slightly more obscure Marvel character with teleportation abilities. Like Blaire, her powers have musical implications: Cheney can warp to locations her voice has previously reached. This makes Blaire and Cheney quite the dynamic duo. With Cheney warping around the stage and Blaire turning their sweet music into light, Spider-Man: Miles Morales titular protagonist must have seen one incredible show.
