Countless memes of Marvel president Kevin Feige spread on social media on the heels of a reportedly leaked trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland have teamed up for the third time in the upcoming film about Marvel’s web-slinging hero, after Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. Set to release this December, Marvel Studios and Sony have yet to officially begin marketing No Way Home, leaving many fans frustrated and eager for details about the film.

Principal photography for No Way Home wrapped up early this year. However, after the confirmation of its title and the release of a few official images of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland), Ned (Jacob Batalon), and MJ (Zendaya), no other promotional materials have been rolled out for the movie so far. With just a few months to go before No Way Home is released in theatres on December 17, viewers have been anxious for the arrival of the first trailer. Following several false alarms, new reports suggested that the trailer was scheduled to debut at CinemaCon (August 23-26). However, plans to reveal the much-anticipated video were thwarted when the trailer was reportedly leaked and quickly swept across Twitter and TikTok.

Once the mishap began making the rounds on social media, fans jumped at the chance to turn the reported leak into a viral meme. Users took to Twitter to imagine what Feige’s reaction may have been when he caught wind of what happened. Now, countless memes imagine Feige becoming comically furious at the source of the No Way Home trailer leak, while others show Holland, a notorious spoiler of MCU film plots, feeling relieved that he wasn’t the one to spill the beans this time around. Currently, Feige and Marvel Studios are busy promoting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is less than two weeks out from its official release. After the Shang-Chi premiere, the Marvel boss was asked about the status of Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s trailer by a member of the press, including when fans could expect to see it. As per usual, Feige was vague in his answer and didn’t give anything concrete away, but did confirm that the long-awaited trailer would be released before the film itself. Feige also maintained that there is no heightened level of secrecy surrounding the project, but that it is being treated as covertly as any other MCU film.

It is worth noting that the reportedly leaked version of the No Way Home trailer may still be different from the official one due for release by the studio. At this stage, it’s still uncertain where the bootleg version came from, and it may be an earlier iteration of what Marvel Studios and Sony will ultimately show to fans. In any case, it is clear that the trailer has not dampened the high levels of anticipation surrounding the film. If anything, buzz around Spider-Man: No Way Home has only grown amid the unexpected sneak peek. And even though it may not be the release that Feige and Marvel were hoping for, that is something to be positive about.
