Spider-Man PS4‘s Mister Negative actor Stephen Oyoung responds to rumors of his joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the webslinger’s villain. The character was originally created by Dan Slott and Phil Jimenez and made his debut in 2007’s Free Comic Book Day: The Amazing Spider-Man No. 1. Mister Negative’s origin story revealed him to be a Chinese gangster and human trafficker who was subjected to an experimental procedure that gave him control over the extra-dimensional Darkforce and Lightforce, resulting in a character living with dissociative identity disorder with the benevolent philanthropist Mister Positive/Martin Li and the villainous crime lord Mister Negative.

After appearing in two animated series and as a minor playable character in a couple of games, Mister Negative would get a proper exploration in 2018’s Spider-Man PlayStation 4 title from Insomniac Games in which he was one of the key antagonists for the story. Following the capture of Kingpin by the titular webslinger, Mister Negative sets out on a quest to conquer all of the crime lord’s territory, while Li also seeks revenge on Mayor Norman Osborn for the experiments performed on him in his youth that granted him his powers. Spider-Man PS4 would also see Li and Mister Negative join up with Doctor Otto Octavius’ Sinister Six to battle both Osborn and Spidey, only to be defeated by the latter and tossed aside by the former.

On the heels of rumors building surrounding his casting in the franchise, Spider-Man PS4’s Mister Negative actor Stephen Oyoung took to Twitter to respond to his joining the MCU. The star played coy about his involvement in Disney’s ongoing comic book series, confirming he has seen the rumors but jokes Sony may have lost his phone number. See Oyoung’s response below:

While Sony’s Spider-Man Universe looks to be building its own Sinister Six roster with the poorly received Venom and Morbius movies, the MCU has slowly introduced its own villains that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could have to face at once. Michael Keaton’s Vulture may now be in the SSU, but Michael Mando was set up as a possible Scorpion with Spider-Man: Homecoming, rumors and theories continue to swirl of Jacob Batalon’s Ned transforming into Hobgoblin, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has returned as of Hawkeye, Bokeem Woodbine’s Shocker exists following Homecoming and audiences continue to call for Mephisto’s arrival. Additionally, with Tom Holland teasing the possibility of another multiverse crossover after Spider-Man: No Way Home, any of the characters from the SSU could make their way back to the MCU for a Sinister Six battle.

Interestingly, the possibility of Spider-Man PS4‘s Mister Negative has already been set up for the MCU thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the threequel, it’s shown that Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May works for the non-profit charity Food, Emergency Aid, Shelter & Training, better known by its acronym F.E.A.S.T., which was notably founded by Martin Li in the comics, leaving the door open for Oyoung or another actor to bring the complex villain to life. However, with Holland’s MCU future largely unknown at the time of writing, only time will tell what’s to come from the webslinger and Mister Negative.
