Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff Silk TV show reportedly has its showrunner, and new details tease how the series will portray Cindy Moon. Sony has had control of Spider-Man and adjacent Marvel characters for decades, but it is only in the last few years that they’ve seriously begun developing titles for characters other than the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. The success of Venom played a big part in this, and they’re currently working on movies for characters like Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. But the studio is also interested in expanding its Marvel content to the small screen.

It was revealed in the back half of 2020 that Sony and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were developing a series based around Silk. At the time, it was reported that Lauren Moon (Good TroubleAtypical) was in talks to write the series. There haven’t been any updates on the series since then, as Sony and Marvel might be trying to figure out how and where Silk can be released. Fans have been left wondering what the status of the series is, who will get cast as Cindy Moon, and much more.

According to a new report from The Illuminerdi, Sony is making progress on Silk finally. The outlet has been told that Sang Kyu Kim will serve as the showrunner. Sang Kyu Kim has several years of experience as a TV producer on popular shows under her belt. She was involved as a producer on The Walking Dead during season 3, became a supervising producer on 24: Live Another Day and Designated Survivor, and moved to a co-executive producer on Altered Carbon for season 2. She’s also an executive producer on Netflix’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy. This has yet to be confirmed by Sony and should be treated as a rumor for the time being.

The other aspect of The Illuminerdi‘s report concerned how Silk will portray Cindy Moon. Casting details confirm Sony is looking to cast someone between the ages of 19 and 29 to play the Korean-American superhero. It describes Cindy as being on her own for the first time in her life who is just beginning her career as a superhero. Cindy is also described as someone who enjoys beating up criminals as an outlet for her anger and that she has an obsession with pop culture from the 80s and 90s. No one has been cast to play Cindy Moon yet, but Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) met with Lord and Miller according to this report.

If this report turns out to be accurate and Silk has a showrunner locked in and Lord and Miller are meeting with actresses to find the show’s Cindy Moon, that could mean the show is closer to happening than many previously thought. There is now a possibility that Silk will be the first Spider-Man-related TV show to come from Sony. Since they do not have a streaming service, Amazon and others will undoubtedly bid high for the rights to new Marvel content. It remains to be seen how or if Silk will connect to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man or Sony’s Spider-Verse, but that could be cleared up soon if the show continues to make good progress.
