New fan art for Spider-Man: Far From Home shows off Peter Parker’s stealth suit. Although costumes and their authenticity to the source material is always a subject of importance in comic book adaptations, the suits featured in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel have a particular relevance. Spider-Man: Far From Home includes four costumes overall. Two were previously introduced in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, respectively.

Another two Spidey suits made their debut, which were the black stealth costume and the specially designed suit which appears as the movie approaches its climax. In addition to lending a distinctive quality to big action sequences, the variety of suits comes with thematic resonance, as it represents Peter’s uncertainty throughout Spider-Man: Far From Home. It’s a comic book movie aware that the suits don’t make the hero, but they can be an important part of his arsenal.

The fan art by Mohammed Hibban recognizes that suits play a significant role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, specifically the tactical stealth suit that Peter wears. While the darker look was played for laughs in the sequel and in subsequent advertising, the art gives credence to the idea that it could serve to illuminate a gloomier side to Peter’s personality. In this way, it serves as a potential road map for what the Jon Watts’ movies could explore in their third installment.

In the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter’s secret identity is revealed to the world, thanks to some trickery from Mysterio and the help of J. Jonah Jameson. The young hero is also framed for Mysterio’s death. It’s one of the more eventful teasers to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with many fans speculating about how the next Spider-Man movie will deal with the fallout. Peter may find himself needing to fight criminals under a new persona, which is ultimately not so different from what was explored in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter’s outlook may prove to be grimier as well. Still recovering from the loss of Tony Stark, he was quickly betrayed and outed by a different potential mentor in Mysterio. This fan art reflects that internal conflict.

Separately from anything that occurs in the third Spider-Man movie, the art gets to the heart of the personal struggle which fuels many of the scenes in Spider-Man: Far From Home. At the start of the film, Peter debates whether to bring along his typical Spider-Man suit because he just wants to have a normal vacation in Europe. As the story progresses however, Peter is fully committed to his heroic alter-ego. Audiences even see him designing his ideal Spider-Man attire, with a little help from Happy Hogan. It’s understandable, from a marketing perspective, why the poster for the sequel made sure to display the faces of all the actors in the main cast. However, the fan art is a much more accurate summation of the journey Peter goes through in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
