With characters such as Thor, the actual God Of Thunder, or Hulk being the strongest there is, it’s easy to believe how powerful they actually are. They present their strength on sight alone but many tend to forget how strong Spider-Man actually is.

He looks and sounds like an average lean kid from Queens, New York but in actuality, he is one of the more surprisingly strong Marvel heroes. Across his many film appearances, Spider-Man has shown his strength that proves that the world is lucky that Peter Parker did not turn evil.

11 Wielding A Manhole Cover – The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Movies, in general, tend to make manhole covers seem so easy to remove but that’s not the case. Being made from iron or concrete, the average manhole cover weighs about 250 pounds which means that even the strongest humans would struggle to lift one.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the ending sequence shows Spider-Man lifting and using a manhole cover to shield himself from a missile as easily as Captain America uses his signature shield. Not only that, he used his webs to swing the manhole cover in mid-air to knock more missiles away. That showcases a lot of strength and force to move a manhole cover so quickly without any resistance.

10 Holding A Car With One Hand – The Amazing Spider-Man

In The Amazing Spider-Man, in order to save a child from a hangle vehicle, Spider-Man goes right into the automobile and tries to help. However, a fire starts and makes the vehicle fall, forcing Spider-Man to spin a web with one hand while the other holds onto what is shown to be an SUV.

The make and model of the SUV are never shown but according to J.D. Power, the average SUV weighs between 2,000 and 6,000 pounds. For comparison, that’s close to the weight of a hippopotamus or a rhinoceros. To be able to hold onto that much weight with one hand is an impressive feat.

9 Lifting A Metal Wall – Spider-Man 2

During the final battle of Spider-Man 2 to save New York City from Doctor Octopus’ reactor, Mary Jane gets in trouble when a massive 20 to 30-foot wall collapses onto her. Luckily, Peter Parker saves the day by catching the wall before it can crush her.

Now, this wall features steel support beams, paneling, and appears to be all metal except for the windows. Though Peter admits he is struggling with it, it’s still a shocking example of strength since he makes the wall come to a complete stop. He even throws the wall towards the fusion reactor.

8 Instantly Stopping A Car – Captain America: Civil War

Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a crowd-pleasing event in Captain America: Civil War. Tom Holland showed off his acting skills only as Peter Parker in his first scene when he meets Tony Stark but this scene does give a taste of the MCU Spider-Man’s strength.

Tony Stark plays a YouTube video of Spider-Man stopping a speeding car by coming between it and a bus at the very last second. With his bare hands, Spider-Man brings the vehicle to a stop even making the back end bounce up and that is no small feat.

7 Catching The Winter Soldier’s Fist – Captain America: Civil War

Keep in mind that Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier is not only a super soldier but he wields a cybernetic arm. When combined, The Winter Soldier was capable of dealing damage to both Captain America and Iron Man. That’s why his encounter with Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War is a surprising one.

Bucky throws a punch at full force with the cybernetic fist but Spider-Man catches it. It does not knock back Spider-Man nor does it even seem to hurt him. Spider-Man simply catches it then turns it away just to admire its design casually. This does hint that Spider-Man could have easily taken on Iron Man.

6 Holding Back A Bus – The Amazing Spider-Man 2

There is a lot to factor into this one because Spider-Man saves civilians by stopping a bus from tilting over. In the city, the average public bus ranges from 20,000 to 40,000 pounds. That’s not all because the bus was being rammed by Rhino’s armored semi-truck at full speed.

Semi-trucks range from 10,000 to 25,000 pounds and Spider-Man was able to stop both of these in one move by pressing with his back and arms. There is a lot to dislike about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but the powers of Spider-Man and these visuals were not one of them.

5 Removing The Rubble – Spider-Man: Homecoming

In a scene taken straight out of an iconic panel of the comics, Spider-Man lifts concrete slabs as water pours onto him. In the case of Spider-Man: Homecoming, he is trapped under the slaps with large pieces of metal and an air conditioning unit piled onto him.

Taking responsibility for himself, Peter Parker uses all of his strength and will to free himself in a very inspiring scene. Considering concrete weights 150 pounds per cubic foot and the slabs appeared to be about two to three meters long each and two feet wide, that would mean Peter is lifting between far over 15,000 pounds on each side.

4 Stopping Cull Obsidian In His Tracks – Avengers: Infinity War

Similar to his encounter with the Winter Soldier, Spider-Man joins the fight against the Black Order in Avengers: Infinity War by stealing the show. Iron Man was struggling against Cull Obsidian but once again, Spider-Man enters only to catch his war hammer with ease.

Spider-Man even takes the time to poke his head out and greet the giant monster. Though Cull Obsidian’s strength is never fully shown, it’s clear that he’s capable of fighting multiple powerful Avengers at once.

3 Surviving A Kaiju-Sized Sandman – Spider-Man 3

With the help of Venom, Sandman is able to get his revenge on Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. At a construction site, Sandman continues to be one of Sam Raimi’s best villains as he absorbs enough sand to transform into a massive one hundred foot tall sand kaiju.

Sandman ends up being the one to almost kill Spider-Man when Venom has the hero strapped down allowing Sandman to pummel him with his massive fists. If it wasn’t for Harry as New Goblin stopping Sandman, one final blow would have done the trick but that shows what it takes to kill Spider-Man.

2 Redirecting A Plane Mid-Descent – Spider-Man: Homecoming

Without any Stark technology or any advanced suit, Spider-Man has to stop a massive cargo plane from crashing into New York City. With just his strength alone, Spider-Man uses his webs to pull the flaps on one wing, redirecting the plane to turn and crash into a safer area.

Wing flaps are not just pieces of metal that pivot, they are controlled via a hydraulic system which would make it hard to manipulate outside of the cockpit. This combined with the heavy wind resistance both the plane and Spider-Man would be feeling showcases that Spider-Man is put under a lot of stress in the scene.

1 Stopping A Speeding Train – Spider-Man 2

When full, one car of a subway train is estimated to be around 122,000 pounds and according to Spider-Man 2, there are six cars equalling an estimated 732,000 pounds of metal. On top of that, the train is at top speed which averages at about 50 to 60 miles per hour.

In one painful scene, Spider-Man uses his webs as, essentially, cables as he uses his whole body and arms as the brakes for the train. He’s able to barely stop the train in time before it derails but it takes a lot out of him, his muscles tearing through his suit and causing him to scream. Nevertheless, stopping that powerful of a train is something that only the likes of Captain Marvel or Hulk can pull off.
