Along with the humming lightsabers and roaring dogfights of the Star Wars franchise, love and romance have always woven their way through the excitement of the galaxy, highlighting some of the most iconic couples of all time. From the original trilogy to the sequel trilogy (and everything in between), fans have been inspired to find new romantic pathways between their favorite characters with fan art and fan fiction depicting love connections that alter established storylines.

While the franchise hasn’t specifically showcased a polyamorous relationship yet, there are many more movies and series to come. As the Star Wars universe grows more inclusive and diverse, the cozy combinations can only become more numerous, and perhaps even change the fate of the entire galaxy.

10 Han x Luke x Leia

The original trilogy’s iconic trio has an enormous amount of chemistry together, and given that George Lucas didn’t always intend Luke and Leia to be siblings, it’s hard not to conceive that the three would make an adorable polycule. Fans like exewing have captured their dynamic perfectly, all coy nonchalance.

Luke’s commitment to Leia is ignited the moment he sees her hologram, and despite his cynical smuggler ways, Han risks his life to help Luke blow up the Death Star for a cause that exceeds monetary compensation. It was clear all three of them cared for one another, and though Luke and Han were pitted against one another as romantic rivals for the same woman, they could have removed all the animosity and guesswork by entering into this relationship.

9 Kylo Ren x Rey x Hux

An unusual ship, Reylux, the ship consisting of the Supreme Leader, his sanctimonious boyfriend General Hux, and the feisty scavenger-turned-Jedi Rey, has gained steady popularity since the sequel trilogy premiered. Fans like Elithien see the rivalries between Hux, Ren, and Rey as fanning the flames of passion, and their banter as a form of flirtation.

Supporting novels and comic books have only shed so much light into the inner thoughts of the three characters, and while they’ve given them more personal journeys (in particular Hux, who isn’t the dictatorial figure he purports to be in the sequel trilogy), fan-fiction has nevertheless been created by devoted fans to explore the romantic side of their characters.

8 Kylo Ren x Hux x Phasma

To balance the sequel trilogy’s hero trio of Rey, Finn, and Poe, the First Order had its own trio consisting of Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Captain Phasma, all of whom would become known as Kyluxma, a small but prominent ship that focused on the turbulent personalities of the three villains.

Peripheral novels that filled in the gaps of the sequel trilogy explained Hux and Phasma’s growth in the First Order as they stuck together to rise to the top, and their devotion to Kylo Ren even though they questioned his curious methods of leadership. Fans like haonguyenly have conceptualized the ship in an endearing way that refocuses their friction into something more affectionate.

7 Poe x Finn x Rey

Reddit posts abound with discussions about the ship JediStormPilot, which consists of Poe, Finn, and Rey. Fans like Withoutasfuss took note of the way Poe bit his lip when commenting on how Finn looked in his jacket, and how Finn subtly tried to inquire about Rey’s relationship status upon their first meeting.

Even Oscar Isaac wanted a romance between Poe and Finn because it offered an interracial power couple, but it just wasn’t meant to be, inspiring fans to come up with their own scenarios in which the two men and Rey could bond romantically over their dynamic experiences.

6 Obi-Wan x Anakin x Padmé

Obianidala, the ship involving Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé has been percolating since the prequel trilogy premiered, with some fans postulating that Obi-Wan had deep feelings for Padmé along with his apprentice, especially given his tendency to cast caution to the wind when protecting her from assassination attempts and Geonosian predators.

What’s more, Padmé and Anakin risked their lives to save Obi-Wan on Geonosis, despite getting captured themselves. Fans like Ana couldn’t help but believe there was love fated among the stars for the three who were always so devoted to one another.

5 Ahsoka x Anakin x Obi-Wan

Fans of The Clone Wars like Xinophin couldn’t ignore the great chemistry between Ahsoka, her master Anakin, and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other than Padmé and his late mother, they were the two people who mattered most to young Skywalker, inspiring some fans to picture the three of them together in their own ship (commonly known as Tanobi-Walker).

It was clear that in both cases, master and apprentice cared a great deal about each other, which is why it was so painful for Ahsoka and Obi-Wan to watch Anakin’s turn to the dark side. Having allies among the Jedi who he could have confided in about his misgivings might have made all the difference in the fate of the galaxy.

4 Lando x Han x Qi’ra x L3-37

Solo: A Star Wars Story revealed a great deal about the infamous smuggler’s early years, highlighting the most important woman in his life prior to Leia, and showcasing Lando Calrissian’s ability to be a smooth operator, which extended to charming piloting droids.

Had Qi’ra not proven to be a turncoat with her own agenda, the four might have been able to form their own polycule with Lando and his feisty co-pilot Elthree, who aside from having a particular affection for the cape-wearing scoundrel, also managed to bond with Qi’ra on their mission for Crimson Dawn.

3 Cassian x Jyn x Bodhi

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story might have an emotional ending, but its importance can’t be understated, introducing fans to an entire cast of new characters to populate the Star Wars universe. For hvit-ravn, there was no denying the spark between Rebel operative Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso, and plenty of love for brave Imperial defector Bodhi.

All three characters were dedicated, impressionable, and passionate about their cause, and had they been afforded the opportunity to pursue something other than saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, they could have enjoyed some happiness and respite in their relationship.

2 Finn x Rey x Rose Tico

The sequel trilogy presented Finn with a few love interests, specifically Rey and Rose, both of whom seemed to become integral parts of his narrative but neither of whom he ended up with. The turn in Finn’s romantic fortune caused fans to wonder what his love life would have been like if he’d entered into a throuple.

Finn was interested in Rey from the moment he met her (even going so far as to ask her bluntly whether or not she had a boyfriend), and Rose risked her life to save Finn after admiring his intrepid spirit, snagging a kiss for her efforts. Despite these setups, fate seemed determined to keep Finn from getting his own happily ever after with either woman.

1 Kylo Ren x Finn x Rey x Poe Dameron

Had fans like Arriku gotten their way, Kylo Ren, Finn, Rey, and Poe might have formed their own polycule, resulting in the happy ending that certain sections of the fandom wanted to happen by the end of the sequel trilogy. This would effectively combine two of the most popular ships, Reylo and Stormpilot, into one.

Perhaps if Poe and Finn had gotten to know Ben Solo, the person Rey found behind the dark side edifice of Kylo Ren, this sort of romantic grouping could have been possible. It also wouldn’t have forced any of the popular characters to have to choose or favor one partner over the other.
