Mando or Din Djarin is arguably the current top masked character in Star Wars right now. However, before he started babysitting and bounty hunting on the side, another “Mandalorian” was already kicking butts and taking names, Boba Fett. Mando owes much to this initially mysterious masked mercenary as if it weren’t for Boba’s minimal dialogue and angst, Disney+ wouldn’t have had its number one show right now.

So now that the two have crossed paths in Chapter 14, old questions have been answered. Boba Fett is somewhat of a Mandalorian. That raises other queries, though: which of the two Mandalorians in the show are better than the other? Who among them deserves the Darksaber? And did Baby Yoda/Grogu bring enough Nevarro Nummies to last imprisonment until he gets rescued? Forget about the last one, because this is about Boba Fett versus Din Djarin.

10 Boba Fett: Older & Wiser

Listening to how they talk and even conduct their actions, it’s clear which among the two bounty hunters is more experienced or weathered. The years look like they’ve been kind to Boba Fett as he doesn’t seem to have lost his touch and can easily take on several Stormtrooper platoons even without his armor.

By comparison, Mando has mostly gotten by the skin of his teeth by relying on his armor and advanced Mandalorian weaponry. Moreover, Boba knows when it’s better to fight and to be diplomatic as he didn’t take his armor by force nor did he kill Baby Yoda’s droid kidnappers on impulse.

9 Din Djarin: More Advanced Weaponry

Fancy as Boba’s Mandalorian armor might be, it looks like it’s in dire need of a buff or maintenance. Cobb Vanth looked like he didn’t clean or take care of it too much and only used it for utility. Boba Fett’s armor makes Mando’s look like a brand new car with how pristine it is despite many battles.

Additionally, Mando’s tools are more updated especially with the Whistling Birds that are invaluable when getting out of a sticky situation. Moreover, Mando’s Amban Rifle is probably his most powerful anti-personnel weapon while Boba’s outdated jetpack rocket pales in comparison.

8 Boba Fett: Escaped The Sarlacc Pit

Din Djarin is a one-man army like most Mandalorians, no doubt about that but the worst that happened to him was head trauma back in the first season and he had to be patched up by a droid. Boba Fett, however, managed to escape certain death in the belly of a Sarlacc.

How he did it is still up for debate. Some speculations point to a Krayt Dragon to the rescue while others just emphasize Boba Fett’s skill and instinct that led him to escape a situation that not even a Jedi could have survived. Knowing him, he probably did it without any formal help.

7 Din Djarin: Singlehandedly Defeated The Krayt Dragon

The show has implied that the same Sarlacc that swallowed Boba Fett was killed and eaten by a nasty Krayt Dragon. That automatically puts Krayt Dragons higher in the predator hierarchy. It just so happens that Mando was able to not only escape but slay the Krayt Dragon on his own.

Well, not entirely on his own since he had to do it with a mining town’s explosive supply but he did the majority of the work. Mando also killed the Krayt Dragon shortly after battling with it— not many Star Wars heroes could claim or perform such a feat though it goes to show just how powerful the Amban Rifle is as it was instrumental in Mando’s plan.

6 Boba Fett: Defeated Han Solo

Both Boba Fett and Mando are decorated bounty hunters in their respective Mandalorian circles (or dot for Boba since he’s an outcast) but the former has a better portfolio. In the original trilogy alone, Boba Fett was menacing and in-demand enough to be sought out by the Galactic Empire.

That’s why Boba was the one Darth Vader cherry-picked to go after Han Solo. Boba succeeded in capturing the luckiest and most evasive rogue of the Star Wars film lore. Even Mando had problems outsmarting enemies and allies and has been betrayed many times so it stands within reason that he won’t be able to out-guile Han Solo.

5 Din Djarin: Defeated Moff Gideon

Of course, there’s also the fact that Mando had defeated bigger fishes albeit unofficially. That big fish would be Moff Gideon, who is likely the highest-ranking enemy that Mando fought and emerged victoriously. He didn’t exactly kill Moff Gideon though he could have if only he double-checked.

What makes the feat even more astounding is how handicapped Mando was during the fight. He was nursing a head wound that incapacitated him just a few hours earlier and Moff Giden was also commandeering a Tie Fighter. Mando took him out with nothing but two grenades, a grappling line, a jetpack, and gonads of steel.

4 Boba Fett: Template For Stormtroopers

Technically, it was Jango Fett, Boba’s father who was the template for Stormtroopers. However, Boba is also an exact untampered clone of his father so he might as well be Jango. Jango was chosen to be the clone template for his skill and attributes as a Mandalorian.

In a sense, he was one of the best among them if the Kaminoans decided to bestow him the honor of being a supersoldier example. Barring the fact that Mace Windu made quick work of Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones (probably for narrative reasons), Jango/Boba was at the top of their game and was presumably better than most Mandalorians who could have been viable candidates as well.

3 Din Djarin: Ate Stormtroopers For Breakfast

Funny enough, despite the fact that Stormtroopers were based on one of the most professional Mandalorians ever, they’re still pushovers. At least the clones in the original trilogy were. It’s safe to assume that they were still the same leftover clones in The Mandalorian since that takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi.

For that matter, they’re no match for Mando no matter how many of them assault him. Mando can even get creative in his ways of killing the Stormtroopers and they’ve usually taken the brunt of his expertise. Maybe Jango wasn’t that good and the Kaminoans overestimated him? In that case, the apple shouldn’t fall far from the tree.

2 Boba Fett: Saved Mando

With all that’s been said and done, Mando still owes a lot to Boba Fett. In Chapter 14 of the show, he notably saved both Mando and Fennec Shand from a crossfire suppression. Mando already used up his Whistling Birds and Fennec was pinned down.

Boba Fett swooped in and dealt with all the Stormtroopers in a frontal assault— something Mando couldn’t do. What’s even more impressive is how Boba did most of the dispatching in melee. Without his intervention, Mando and Fennec would surely have died.

1 Din Djarin: Galaxy’s Most Wanted

Nevertheless, when it comes to surviving the whole Galaxy and the Outer Rim, Mando was objectively better than Boba. Most of the time, Boba was the hunter, not the hunted. Mando, on the other hand, had enough money on his head as a reward to fund another Death Star construction.

As such, Mando has had it worse and kept having it worse each episode but still manages to overcome anything the Galactic Empire throws at him (until Chapter 14). To be fair to Mando, Boba didn’t seem to have faced a progressively disadvantageous disposition.
