Dominic Monaghan reveals the first official look at his Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker character. In August of last year, the Lord of the Rings and Lost star was a late addition to the Star Wars 9 cast, joining the project in (what else?) a mystery role. Viewers would probably be forgiven if they forgot Monaghan is in the upcoming film, seeing that marketing to date has focused more on introducing other fresh faces like Zorii Bliss (Keri Russell), Jannah (Naomi Ackie), and Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant). That gave the impression Monaghan likely had a minor role and his character wasn’t as prominent as his co-stars (both new and returning).

Of course, given the highly-secretive nature of Star Wars promotion, absence from the first wave of materials isn’t necessarily an indication of character importance. Aliens Boolio and Babu Frik, who were revealed during the Triple Force Friday livestream, evidently have key parts to play – given how reluctant Star Wars 9 cast members were to say anything about them in front of the cameras. So, there’s still a lot to learn about The Rise of Skywalker and how all the players factor in. Details about Monaghan’s character are still unknown, but now his look has been revealed.

On Twitter, Monaghan shared an image of a standee for his Star Wars 9 character, who is still nameless. Check it out in the space below:

Judging by the costume (which bears some resemblance to the Rebellion troops on Endor), Monaghan could be playing a member of the Resistance. After suffering heavy losses in The Last Jedi, the Resistance needs all the extra hands they can get, and Monaghan appears ready for combat. But since there’s so little information to go off of, that’s difficult to say with any degree of certainty. Monaghan could just as easily be a mercenary/scoundrel type the main characters encounter during their mission (similar to DJ in Last Jedi). It’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds; for the time being, fans will likely take the advice in Monaghan’s hashtag and be curious about everything.

If Monaghan’s character is part of the Force Friday rollout, there’s a chance he could be glimpsed in a new theatrical trailer or the inevitable barrage of TV spots coming in the next few months. Of course, considering how tight-lipped Disney has been about The Rise of Skywalker, they may decided to keep Monaghan under wraps until December. There isn’t necessarily a need to spill all the beans about this particular character, since returning names like Rey and Kylo Ren are more than enough to get fans excited about the sequel trilogy now.
