A new piece of Star Wars fan art has hit social media showing John Boyega’s Finn as a Jedi Knight in his own spinoff movie. The character debuted in the Star Wars universe in 2015 when The Force Awakens premiered in theaters. From there, he went on to become a fixture of the sequel trilogy, appearing in all three films and numerous pieces of expanded Star Wars media.

The concept of Stormtrooper-turned-rebel Finn becoming a Jedi was teased as far back as the earliest trailers for The Force Awakens. The cryptic pieces of marketing showed the character wielding Luke Skywalker’s old lightsaber, only for the movie to actually make Daisy Ridley’s Rey Force-sensitive in a third-act twist. Following that reset of the status quo, Finn was eventually revealed to be Force-sensitive himself in The Rise of Skywalker but he never became an official Jedi Knight on-screen. This led to criticism of how Finn was handled in the trilogy, which Boyega agreed with.

In the time since the latest Star Wars trilogy ended, many fans have created their own art imagining Finn as a Jedi in the absence of seeing that story come to life. In fact, artist Jordan Geiger recently took to Instagram to share a piece of fan art imagining Finn in his own Star Wars spinoff movie. Check out the artwork below:

The above image explores what a spinoff following Finn post-The Rise of Skywalker could look like in a film titled FN-2187 – his First Order designation from which he derived the name “Finn.” Wearing Jedi robes and carrying a lightsaber, the fan poster imagines a version of Finn that could’ve started Jedi training after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The caption of the post expresses disappointment that this ultimately never happened.

Of course, despite some frustration over a lack of in-depth exploration of Finn’s arc in the sequel trilogy, there may be a chance for a film like FN-2187 to actually come together. Despite previously indicating that he was done with Star Wars, Boyega recently came out and confirmed that he would be open to returning to the franchise if J.J. Abrams is involved in the project. If nothing else, this seems to suggest that the door has not fully closed on the possibilities of exploring Finn’s journey through the Star Wars galaxy.
