Thanks to an amazing mod, long-time Star Wars: Battlefront fans finally have a vision of what Star Wars:Battlefront 3 could have looked like if the old series hadn’t fallen apart. The original Star Wars: Battlefront was released in 2004, and its sequel in 2005, both quickly becoming incredibly well-reviewed and popular titles in the Star Wars franchise. Unfortunately, though it seems several attempts were made, a third title in the original Battlefront series was never released. Instead, LucasArts was purchased by Disney, and developer EA DICE rebooted the series.

Compared to the older Battlefront games, the more recent additions, Star Wars: Battlefront in 2015, and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in 2017, had much more realistic graphics but were plagued with other issues. The series has practically become synonymous with the ongoing issue of loot boxes in video games, with Battlefront 2 being scrutinized in particular for expensive unlockable content and a painstakingly slow progression system. Since the games have sold well, it’s not unlikely that EA DICE will eventually release a Star Wars:Battlefront 3, something the original games never had the chance to do.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a new trailer from the YouTube channel River, Battlefront fans get a look at Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Legacy, a mod that attempts to be faithful to the older style of the games. While this is certainly not official, it does stay true to the classic games that some fans have missed. The trailer showcases classic graphics, classic characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and Count Dooku, and a detailed storyline with custom cutscenes for players to experience.

To download the mod, there is a link to a Discord server in the video’s description. Keep in mind that in order for this mod to function, the player also must have the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 on their PC. The trailer ended with further information about a new upcoming map and more campaign cutscenes on the way. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with a dedicated fanbase; hopefully, when developing the inevitable official Star Wars: Battlefront 3, EA DICE can learn a thing or two from its previous launches, and maybe from this remarkable mod as well.

To be fair to the more modern Battlefront games, EA has come a long way from the game’s troubled launch. After many tweaks and updates, 2017’s Battlefront 2 is considered by many to finally be a good game. But for those fans that are still nostalgic for a different time, perhaps one that’s just like the simulation, it’s good to have dedicated fans to create mods like this.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
