Star Wars fans can’t unsee what looks like video game icon Pac-Man in the first poster for Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Inheriting the role from Alec Guinness, Ewan McGregor played Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas’ prequels, and his performance is arguably the most beloved aspect of the trilogy. Following the success of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm decided to greenlight a plethora of Star Wars shows, including The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The latter of which was originally conceived as a movie before being confirmed as a series in 2019.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Obi-Wan Kenobi will pick up with its titular character after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and follow Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi during his time in exile on Tatooine. McGregor will reprise his role as the iconic Jedi Master with Hayden Christensen also returning as his former Padawan Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. In addition to McGregor and Christensen, the series will star Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Maya Erskine, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. It will be directed by Deborah Chow, who also helmed two episodes of The Mandalorian. Following some concept art released last year, the official poster for the series recently dropped online, and fans couldn’t help but see a familiar face in the clouds.

In the poster, which also revealed Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 25th, McGregor sports his Kenobi beard with Tatooine’s twin suns behind him. One of the suns is partially obscured by a cloud, which makes it resemble none other than classic arcade staple Pac-Man. Naturally, fans took to Twitter to make jokes about the video game character appearing in a galaxy far, far away. Check out some of those tweets below:

Outside of Pac-Man jokes, fans have also been talking about what appears to be Anakin’s lightsaber in Obi-Wan’s hand—which teases Christensen’s return even if Vader/Anakin isn’t pictured. The series will take place ten years after the pair dueled on Mustafar in Episode III, presumably focusing on Obi-Wan’s mission to watch over Luke Skywalker while grappling with his failure as a mentor to Anakin. Given the much-hyped rematch between mentor and student, the series is likely to travel off of Tatooine. Beyond that, Lucasfilm has kept plot details to a minimum. Now that The Book of Boba Fett has released its season finale, Lucasfilm’s marketing can focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi. As evident by The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Disney+’s Star Wars shows are going to admirable lengths to connect the franchise’s live action and animated properties—from Ahsoka to Cad Bane. So it stands to reason that Obi-Wan Kenobi will take cues from Star Wars: The Clone Wars as it further fleshes out Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship. Christensen is also expected to appear in the upcoming Ahsoka series. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Rosario Dawson appear alongside McGregor as well.

Viewers are going to have to wait until at least May 25 to find out. Regardless, it shouldn’t be long before the first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer is released. However, fans probably shouldn’t hold out hope for a cameo from Pac-Man.
