Finn emerged as a Resistance hero at an admirable young age based on his birthdate in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Played by John Boyega, Finn served as a core character in the sequels, making his official debut in 2017’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The character was one of the newcomers at the center of the story along with Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe (Oscar Isaac), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). So how old was Finn throughout the Star Wars sequels, and what does it say about his journey?

When viewers were introduced to Finn in The Force Awakens, he was a First Order stormtrooper identified as FN-2187. During a combat mission on Jakku, the young man ignored orders from Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren. He then joined with the recently captured Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, who officially suggested the name Finn, and escaped from the First Order. Shortly after, he teamed up with Rey before becoming a full-fledged member of the Resistance. During his time with the Resistance, Finn fought with Rose Tico aboard the First Order’s mobile headquarters, participated in the Battle of Crait, and led an assault during the Battle of Exegol.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to Star Wars canon, Finn was born in 11 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), which happened to be the same year that Rose was born. Despite being born in the New Republic Era, Finn was one of the many human children forced to become a new generation of stormtroopers in Star Wars. Seven years had passed since the fall of the Empire, but the formation of the First Order was in the works during Finn’s childhood. By the time Finn was ready for his first combat mission as a stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, it was the year 34 ABY, making him somewhere around the age of 23. To compare, Rey was just a few years younger since she was in the 19-year-old age range when she too got involved with the Resistance.

Finn Was One Of The Youngest Resistance Members In Star Wars

Star Wars: The Last Jedi truly ramped up the tension between the Resistance and the First Order. As Finn attempted to help the Resistance turn the tides of the war among the galaxy, the First Order managed to track down the fleet. The ambush spilled out to the planet of Crait before surviving members of the Resistance had the chance to fully escape. The events of the sequel took place the same year as The Force Awakens, so Finn was still in his early twenties.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker featured the return of Emperor Palpatine as the First Order orchestrated plans to eliminate the Resistance. Finn’s journey encountered a full-circle moment when he met a group of ex-stormtroopers led by a woman named Jannah. As allies of the Resistance, the mutinied stormtroopers aligned with Finn for a ground assault during the Battle of Exegol. Not only did the threat of the First Order come to an end, but various Resistance members destroyed the Sith Eternal forces. The war officially concluded in 35 ABY, meaning Finn was 24-years-old when he finally found freedom. While it’s unclear what the future holds for Finn after the Star Wars sequel trilogy, he surely has a long and bright future ahead.
