Fans might not have to wait much longer for their first look at the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 if an insider’s account is to be believed. 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a breakout hit among EA’s divisive run of licensed Star Wars games, so much so that developer Respawn wasted no time in announcing not only a sequel, but an entire series centered around former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis and his quest to try and restore the old Jedi Order during the reign of the Galactic Empire. The first of these sequels was officially revealed alongside two other EA-published Star Wars titles in a press release back in January.

Virtually nothing else has been shown or revealed about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s sequel so far, aside from the fact that it is indeed in development, but leaks have suggested that it could have a different title altogether. Fans have speculated that the plot to the next Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order game could tie into this year’s Kenobi Disney Plus series, and that the next installment could take Cal’s story in a darker direction in the tradition of Star Wars sequels like The Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi. Fans are eagerly awaiting the first official footage of the darker Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, with the game being one of EA’s most highly-anticipated.

Gaming industry insider Jeff Grubb believes that the next Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game could be shown off sooner rather than later, as stated in a post to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours by Reddit user Spider-Fan77. In the latest episode of his YouTube gaming show Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess, Grubb answers a viewer’s question about the Fallen Order sequel by predicting that EA will reveal more information about it during the Star Wars Celebration event in May. He also believes that the game could be released in early 2023, but doesn’t rule out the possibility of it coming out by the end of this year.

The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel is just one of many Star Wars-themed video games on the horizon, as EA is also publishing a real-time strategy Star Wars title by Greg Foerstch’s new studio Bit Reactor, and a first-person shooter being helmed by Respawn Game Director Peter Hirschmann. Outside of EA, Ubisoft is partnering with Lucasfilm to produce an open-world Star Wars game that will allow players to explore the Galaxy Far, Far, Away in a variety of classic vehicles from the franchise, and Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream is currently working on Star Wars Eclipse – which will take place nearly 300 years before the events of the mainline Star Wars films in what is known as the High Republic era. There’s currently no word on whether any of these other upcoming Star Wars games will be shown off during this year’s Star Wars Celebration as well, but it is certainly possible.

In the meantime, fans are still watching with bated breath for any further developments on the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, as the first game managed to overcome EA’s shaky reputation with the Star Wars gaming license and deliver a solid first-person experience that mixed Metroid-style exploration with lightsaber combat and Force abilities. If Jeff Grubb is to be believed, these fans will get to see how the next Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order title will evolve this formula during May’s Star Wars Celebration event.
