Star Wars’ Mark Hamill finally picks up those power converters Luke Skywalker left on Tatooine – 43 years later. In 1977’s Star Wars, Luke is introduced as a lowly moisture farmer, the nephew of Owen and Beru Lars. After the fateful purchase of C-3PO and R2-D2 in that original film, Uncle Owen asks Luke to clean the droids before dinner. Luke famously whines, “but I was going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!” Uncle Owen replies, “you can waste time with your friends after your chores are done.

Fans love to mock the Tosche Station line because of its exaggerated delivery. Hamill has said that he wanted to emphasize Luke’s immaturity to create a stark contrast between where he is at the beginning of Episode IV and where he ends up. Leia’s iconic message is found while cleaning the droids, prompting R2-D2 to lead Luke to Obi-Wan Kenobi and, ultimately, his destiny. Luke later finds that stormtroopers have killed his aunt, uncle, and destroyed their farm looking for the droids. At this moment, Luke puts Tosche Station (or rather his life on Tatooine) behind him, decides to help the Rebellion, and become a Jedi.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Twitter, Hamill posted a photo of himself holding a red power converter in front of “Tosche Station.” The photoshopped image replaces the Mobil gas station logo with “Tosche.” Hamill captioned the image, “I can finally cross this off my ‘to-do’ list. #BetterLateThanNever.” Check it out below.

Even though some fans may have already seen Hamill at Tosche Station, it’s never been official. Tosche Station was supposed to appear in A New Hope, but was cut from the theatrical release. In the deleted scene, Luke tells his friend, Biggs Darklighter, about a battle he saw taking place above their planet. The scene was originally meant to foreshadow Luke’s involvement in the Galactic Civil War as well as add gravitas to Biggs’ death during the Battle of Yavin. The A New Hope deleted scenes like this one are available in the special features section of the original trilogy’s Blu-ray release.

Hamill’s post is a welcome addition to what has been a nostalgic month for Star Wars fans. Luke’s character arc – from A New Hope to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – has arguably made him the face of the franchise. In the case of Star Wars, the hero’s journey sees a relatable character (with little to no aspirations) become a powerful Jedi Master. No line seems to epitomize Luke’s humble beginnings better than, “but I was going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters,” and seeing Hamill finally pick up those converters is a humorous reminder of how far Star Wars has come since 1977.
