Star Wars: Squadrons Has No Plans To Add More Ships (Even B-Wings)

EA has no plans to add any new ships to the Star Wars: Squadrons roster after launch, even the fan favorite B-Wing. A list of the game’s ships leaked ahead of its official reveal event last month, which confirmed that the B-Wing and some other classic ships hadn’t made the cut.

Seen as a successor to the popular Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Squadrons will focus on space dogfights between several iconic Star Wars ships. While the main draw seems to be multiplayer, it will also include a single-player campaign, though there’s no word yet of just how extensive that mode will be. Multiplayer, on the other hand, looks to be well fleshed out, with multi-stage battles and a huge range of customizable components for each of its ships. While it tops out at 5v5 battles, fleets of AI companions will accompany each side in their skirmishes, making the fights seem suitably epic.

As soon as Star Wars: Squadrons was revealed, some fans began noting the lack of their favorite ships, with B-Wing fans being the most vocal online. The iconic ship stands out for its unusual looks and has appeared in Star Wars games and films, gaining it a lot of fans. However, as USGamer reports, it won’t be coming to Star Wars: Squadrons. According to USGamer, director Ian Frazier told reporters at a press event that EA wants to deliver Star Wars: Squadrons as a complete experience with no additions to come after its launch.

EA has previously said that it has no plans for microtransactions in Star Wars: Squadrons, but Frazier’s comments are the most direct response to calls for the B-Wing (or any other ship) to be added later and they seem to rule out even free additions. Frazier told USGamer that there are no plans “at this time” for post-launch content, so it’s not impossible that EA could change its mind later. After all, EA famously turned Star Wars Battlefront 2 from an abject failure at launch into an incredibly popular game by steadily adding free content for the past few years. Star Wars: Squadrons could still get a similar treatment without it technically receiving any microtransactions if EA decides to change its tune after release.

B-Wing or no B-Wing, Star Wars: Squadrons looks like it will have a lot to offer Star Wars fans when it launches this fall. With cross-play, full VR support, and some gorgeous looking space battles, it could still be a blast even if players are stuck with their second-favorite ship.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 2nd, 2020.
