Fans were enthralled by a mysterious Sith lord with a double-bladed lightsaber in 1999, with his red and black look, horns, and threatening demeanor. Despite apparently dying in The Phantom Menace, Maul survived and grew to be one of the best characters in all of Star Wars.

With an unbelievable series of voice performances from Sam Witwer in The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, Maul has a plethora of fantastic lines and quotes over the years, and we look at perhaps the ten best, out of a pool of a lot of brilliance.

10 “Let Me Go! Let Me Die! You Are All Going To Burn! We’re All Going to Die, You Don’t Know What You’re Doing!”

Season seven of The Clone Wars presented many phenomenal quotes, no shortage of which came from Maul, and the most harrowing of which occurs when Maul is captured by Ahsoka, Rex, Bo-Katan, and a few more.

Maul screams at Ahsoka to let him die when she saves him from falling, telling everyone they do not understand what is to come. Maul not only understands the chaos soon to come, but is scared of it.

9 “The Sith, The Sith Took Everything From Me. Ripped Me From My Mother’s Arms, Murdered My Brother, Used Me As A Weapon, And Then Cast Me Aside. Abandoned Me. Once, I Had Power; Now I Have Nothing. Nothing.”

Maul reappears in Rebels and remains a brilliant character, first seen in the incredible “Twilight Of The Apprentice” set of episodes.

When talking to Ezra about the Sith, Jedi, and other things, he talks about how he himself is not a Sith, and in fact, he despises them, and they took everything from him. An underrated fact about Maul is that he is a tragic character, truly thrown from childhood into the Dark Side.

8 “He. Will. Avenge Us.”

One of the best lightsaber battles in all of Star Wars is the shortest, in Obi-Wan vs. Maul in Rebels. It is so rich in history and full of emotion, and older Obi-Wan is fantastic.

Of course, Obi-Wan won the duel due to the fact Maul was running on fumes of hatred alone, tired from the desert, while Obi-Wan remained a talented duelist. When Maul dies in Obi-Wan’s arms, having realized what Obi-Wan is doing there, he asks if Luke is the chosen one, and Maul then utters this as his last words.

7 “With The Galaxy At War, Savage, There Is Only One Way To Get The Attention Of A Jedi. Slaughter Of The Innocent, Mercilessly And Without Compromise.”

Maul has always had a good level of intelligence in terms of creating a plan, when to utilize it, and why that plan would work.

When he returns in The Clone Wars, he orders what became the Massacre on Raydonia in order to garner the attention of the Jedi. He explains this to Savage in such a cold-hearted way, with vicious intent, but an air of intellect about the whole thing.

6 “Too late for what? The republic to fall? It already has, and you just can’t see it, there is no justice, no law, no order, except for the one that will replace it.”

“The time of the Jedi has passed. They cannot defeat Sidious, but together, you and I can.” Maul is a star of season 7, and knowing Palpatine’s plan is soon to come, he wants to stop him, but also wants power.

In trying to partner with Ahsoka, Maul goes on a tangent about the state of the Republic and how it is soon to fall. This quote is a brilliant precursor to the pairs battle, and Witwer is perfect here.

5 “It Was I Who Languished For Years Thinking Of Nothing But You, Nothing But This Moment, And Now The Perfect Tool For My Vengeance Is In Front Of Us. I Never Planned On Killing You But I Will Make You Share My Pain, Kenobi.”

One of the most devastating deaths in Star Wars is when Maul kills Satine Kryze right in front of Obi-Wan, all to make him suffer.

The sheer hatred Maul has for Obi-Wan is incomparable, and when he tells him this was what he wanted, to make him suffer, it encapsulates that hatred. He had the chance to kill Obi-Wan, but wanted to do something worse to him.

4 “JEDI! I Have Been Waiting For You.”

It sent chills down the spine when Maul returns and comes face-to-face with Obi-Wan once again, calling him “Jedi.”

To say Maul had been waiting for Obi-Wan is an understatement, but as fantastic as this line is based on its delivery and importance, it is not the best from the meeting.

3 “KENOBIIIII”

It seems almost silly to say that a singular word falls into the category of such a great character’s best quotes.

But, when Maul is trailing through that desert and falls to his knees, screaming “KENOBIIIII,” it is mortifying, sending shivers down your spine at the absolute and complete singular hatred in his body. Shoutout to Sam Witwer’s performance once again.

2 “Your Rage Has Unbalanced You. This Is Not The Jedi Way… Is It?”

Maul and his brother Savage have a great battle with the unlikely duo of Obi-Wan and Asajj Ventress, with Maul and Obi-Wan having a great dynamic.

For the first time, fans see anger from Obi-Wan, even more than in The Phantom Menace, prompting Maul to taunt him about the way of the Jedi.

1 “You May Have Forgotten Me, But I Will Never Forget You. You Cannot Imagine The Depths I Would Go To To Stay Alive, Fueled By My Singular Hatred, For You!”

There may be more remembered quotes, but there is no quote that better sums up Maul and his life than this one coming from his reacquaintance with Obi-Wan.

Maul is nothing short of obsessed with Obi-Wan. When he says he stayed alive fueled on hatred for Obi-Wan, that is true, and it is almost unbelievable. Maul lives for vengeance, for hatred, all for Obi-Wan.
