No mortal, corporeal Star Wars character was as in-tune with the Force as Jedi Grand Master Yoda. Undoubtedly, the mysterious and eccentric Jedi is one of the best and most recognizable characters in Star Wars, whether that be due to his appearance or speech.

That same speech, with Frank Oz’s iconic voice and the very different way of constructing dialogue, has given way to many phenomenal quotes over the years, a lot of which have to do with the Force in which he is so immersed.

10 “Death Is A Natural Part Of Life, Rejoice For Those Around You Who Transform Into The Force.” – Revenge Of The Sith (2005)

Anakin went through a rough time in Revenge Of The Sith and was not helped by Yoda’s advice of letting go.

This quote highlighting the fate of those in the Force is great, but the end, where he says not to miss or mourn, is both indicative of a Jedi ideology that Anakin had come frustrated with, especially with his romance with Padmé. Nevertheless, Yoda is right in that death is natural, and knowing everyone is one with the Force makes that easier.

9 “Through The Force, Things You Will See. Other Places. The Future, The Past. Old Friends Long Gone.” – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Yoda training Luke in Empire is a standout aspect of the original trilogy and gave way for many fantastic quotes, including this one that prompts Lukes’s senses of what is happening on Bespin.

It is a quote that speaks volumes on the depth of the Force. It does not conform to time or wants; it is everywhere, all surrounding, and all-encompassing, allowing you to see thins in and out of the physical realm that it binds together.

8 “Anger, fear, aggression, the dark side of the Force, are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.”

While Yoda is completely light in heart and firmly in the light side of the Force, he understands the Dark Side; he knows what it is, how it works, even if he did fail to see it in action.

When he tells Luke this, he is not necessarily saying you cannot come back, but rather that what has happened will forever haunt you, forever be with you, pulling at and taunting you, something we see embodied in his father. When you allow fear, anger, and aggression in, they may aid you in a fight, but the consequences are dire.

7 “You Must Feel The Force Around You. Here. Between You, Me, The Tree, The Rock, Everywhere, Yes. Even Between The Land And The Ship.” – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

This quote is the second half of one of the most epic and beautiful monologues in all of Star Wars and is truly Yoda explaining the Force, and its importance.

Luke must open his mind to the Force and its infinite possibilities and how it works in its surrounding of all things, and their binding. He struggles with this, and Yoda explains this to him beautifully, pointing out to him that the Force is everywhere.

6 “In The End, Cowards Are Those Who Follow The Dark Side.” – The Clone Wars (2008-2020)

Not all of Yoda’s great quotes come from the movies. In the pilot of The Clone Wars, Yoda is the main Jedi and is fantastic throughout.

After Ventress flees, he exclaims the cowardice of the Dark Side. It backs up Yoda and the Jedi’s thoughts on the Dark Side, and how it is weak, seductive, and easy, just like running away.

5 “Twilight Is Upon Me, And Soon Night Must Fall. That Is The Way Of Things. The Way Of The Force.” – Return Of The Jedi (1983)

Yoda is not someone who fears death and is at peace when the time arrives in Return Of The Jedi for him to become one with the Force.

It is a testament to Yoda’s faith and understanding of the Force that he is so passive when his time comes, a nine hundred year life, ending in peace while imparting wisdom on his young protege.

4 “A Jedi Uses The Force For Knowledge And Defence, Never For Attack.” – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

From what we see during the time of the prequels, the Jedi do a lot wrong. Getting caught up in war changed the way they acted and the way people saw them.

Yoda, though, retained his beliefs of what a Jedi should be, and, despite what Luke may have thought, Yoda explains that attack is not the Jedi way, it is defense and knowledge. It is an iconic quote and crucial to the Jedi ideology.

3 “Deceive You, Eyes Can. In The Force, Very Different Each Of You Is.” – The Clone Wars (2008-2020)

The treatment of the clones by the Jedi in The Clone Wars was always a joy to watch. Seeing how Jedi like Anakin, Ahsoka, Plo Koon, Obi-Wan, and Yoda were close to their clones and knew them was beautiful.

We first see this in the first episode, with Yoda telling them that, despite being clones, they are all unique in the Force. The individuality of clones is key to the show, and it kicks off here.

2 “Fear Is The Path To The Dark Side. Fear Leads To Anger, Anger Leads To Hate, Hate Leads To Suffering.” –  The Phantom Menace (1999)

This quote from Yoda to Anakin is probably the best and most well-known description of the fall to the Dark Side of the Force.

All of these steps happen to Anakin; fear of losing Padmé leads to anger, hate, and eventually suffering, and he is then turned into Darth Vader, having fallen completely. It is a brilliantly delivered and harrowingly foreshadowing line.

1 “For My Ally Is The Force. And A Powerful Ally It Is. Life Creates It, Makes It Grow. It’s Energy Surrounds Us And Binds Us. Luminous Beings Are We, Not This Crude Matter.” – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

This is the first part of the aforementioned beautiful speech by Yoda on the Force, and one of the greatest moments in the original trilogy.

Yoda explains what the Force is, how it relates to the Galaxy, how it works on a base level, and he tells Luke that strength comes from within, from the Force, not from one’s physicality. What is on the inside matters more, what is bound, and surrounded by the Force matters.
