The Star Wars prequel trilogy are often considered some of the worst films of the franchise due to the execution of the trilogy. The ideas were there, but quotes like “I don’t like sand” made the films more laughable than some of the other Star Wars films. And when the prequels only had three iconic films to be compared to, it didn’t seem to hold up as well.

However, the prequels have been reassessed a bit and aren’t as hated as they once were, and of course, the internet has expressed that in meme form. The Phantom MenaceAttack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith are riddled with moments that have become popular memes on the internet.

10 Anakin Vs. Anakin

Anakin in The Clone Wars and Anakin in the prequel movies really seem like two completely different characters. One is a moody teen and the other is a Jedi Knight in the midst of a war. Clone Wars Anakin is definitely what George Lucas seemed to want out of the character. He was cool and suave and definitely knew how to steal Padmé’s heart, while prequel Anakin took a romantic moment with her as an opportunity to rage against sand.

9 The Rule Of Two

Throughout the prequel series, Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus is the apprentice to Darth Sidious, the mysterious Sith Lord who ultimately runs the show. In The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was Sidious’s apprentice but was “killed” and replaced by Dooku.

The Sith have a pretty strict rule about there only ever being two Sith lords at any given time— a master and their apprentice. The apprentice will once day defeat and become the master, only to get their own apprentice and start the cycle over again. However, while Dooku knew of the Rule of Two, he still helped Sidious seduce Anakin to the dark side, which would lead Anakin to take his position.

8 Another For His Collection

General Grievous is known for his four arms and ever-growing collection of lightsabers that he takes as tokens when he kills another Jedi. The 2003 animated Clone Wars done by Genndy Tartakovky (Samurai Jack) showcased Grievous in the best light, as he ruthlessly fought a team of Jedi, killed them, and then stole their lightsabers and used them against each other.

This picture, however, shows Grievous reigning supreme as he holds what seems like almost every character’s lightsaber— even Lego sabers— with enough arms to go around.

7 Jedi Zoom Call

The coronavirus has rendered many meetups and parties as virtual hangouts, predominately on the video conferencing app, Zoom. In this meme, the Jedi (and Sith) are meeting up to have a party together over the Star Wars equivalent of Zoom or FaceTime, with holograms. Holograms are used a ton during the prequel series to convey long-distance phone calls throughout the galaxy since everyone is just always so busy doing their own thing, so it adds an extra layer of humor to this meme that they’d feel like their holograms still have to use Zoom to communicate with each other.

6 Not Granted The Title Of Master

The list of vowels became a pretty big meme around the meme world, and Star Wars prequel memes were no exception. This meme takes on one of the iconic moments of the prequel trilogy when Mace Windu grants Anakin Skywalker a seat on the council for spying on Palpatine, but decides he still isn’t worthy of the master rank. And on that same token, Y may sit with the rest of the vowels, but by no means is that letter a vowel itself.

5 Applied Force

Newton’s Third Law is pretty fitting against Anakin, as he may believe that everything and everyone is turning against him as he turns to the dark side. However, in this case, it isn’t just the paranoia talking. The idea of Newton yelling back at Anakin that he is the reason for his own demise makes this a pretty perfect meme. Newton’s Third Law states that for every action, there is a reaction, and isn’t that pretty much what Anakin’s entire descent into the dark side is about?

4 Become What You Hate

It is no secret that Anakin hates sand, which makes the idea of Anakin becoming everything he hates all the more ridiculous. Obi-Wan tells Anakin that he has become the very thing he swore to destroy, which of course were the Sith and everything relating to the dark side— but what Anakin really wanted to destroy since childhood was the sand that got everywhere.

This tragic scene from Revenge of the Sith becomes utterly hilarious due to this meme and now any fan who sees this will think of Anakin as a giant pile of sand whenever they watch this scene/

3 You Were The Chosen One

The year of 2020 seemed like it was destined to be one of the greatest years in a long time due to all the amazingly placed holidays that would lead to more days off school and work, and more fun over the weekends. For years, Halloween has been celebrated on weekdays, but this year it was going to be celebrated on a Saturday which meant longer nights and no school or work the next day. Christmas on a Friday implies that there would be a long weekend. Everything about this year seemed perfect…until 2020 went full Anakin and turned to the dark side on us.

2 Green Is Sus

Among Us is probably the most popular game right now, certainly in terms of meme-ability. It is a party game in which one player is given the role of imposter and goes around secretly killing other crewmates on a spaceship or space station while the crewmates complete tasks. This meme leaves Green to be pretty suspicious as they ridicule the Star Wars films and then immediately get voted off as the assumed imposter as Brown quotes, “It’s treason then.”

1 Prequel Memes

This meme is probably the most true out of all of the ones on this list. The prequel memes have become so prevalent that viewers of the prequel films can’t help but to see every scene as the meme itself. This scene will no doubt remind any viewer of this meme, just like “Hello there” or “This is where the fun begins” will never not be funny. Thanks to the memes, the prequel series now has an added layer of comedy and will be appreciated for all the memes and laughs.
