Over seven seasons, one hundred and thirty-three episodes, and one movie, The Clone Wars has become one of the very best pieces of Star Wars content out there, as well as one of the most beloved in the fandom. Some of the arcs and episodes have gotten more extensive praise than the movies themselves.

But the show is not consistently perfect. It started out on a bad note, and over those seven seasons, it was not free from filler or pretty bad episodes that were not well received, or not cared about at all due to their lack of quality or importance.

10 “Secret Weapons” (Season 5 Episode 10) – 6.5

Episodes of the show that focused on the droids as main characters never seemed to do too well, “Secret Weapons” is part of an arc that does so and is half pretty hated, and a half pretty OK.

The first two episodes of this arc are two of the lowest-rated episodes of the show, and the kickoff follows D-Squad, a crew of Republic droids that includes R2-D2 and led by Colonel Gascon as they are sent to extract an encryption module from a Separatist Dreadnaught.

9 “Nomad Droids” (Season 4 Episode 6) – 6.5

“Nomad Droids” was no exception to the fact that droid centric episodes are not well received, even though it does follow the two most iconic droids in the franchise.

Episodes like this, which in this case see Artoo and Threepio on a series of bizarre little adventures, just do not sit well with fans and have no obvious place in the story. It is pure filler.

8 “Gone Without A Trace” (Season 7 Episode 5) – 6.5

The middle portion of The Clone Wars’ seventh and final season received a lot of hate because of the characters of Trace and Rafa, and the kickoff of that arc was no different.

It is Ahsoka’s first venture to the real world outside of the Jedi Order, and she is immediately caught up with the two Martez sisters. The journey is important for Ahsoka, but the arc just did not get the love.

7 “A Sunny Day In The Void” (Season 5 Episode 11) – 6.4

Going back to the D-Squad arc for the final time, the second episode of the arc is the last before the second half gets quite good at points with some good heart and the introduction of Gregor.

Nevertheless, the second episode sees the D-Squad stuck on a desolate planet after fulfilling the mission objective and crash landing on the planet. It is a sore spot in the universally beloved season five.

6 “Mercy Mission” (Season 4 Episode 5) – 6.4

Sticking with droid centric episode once again, and going back to the Artoo and Threepio arc, the first episode of that story is “Mercy Mission.”

It sees Artoo and Threepio alongside Wolffe and a relief team on the planet Aleena, and eventually, they are forced to stay there a bit longer than they planned to. It pretty much suffers the same issue as the droid episodes previously mentioned.

5 “Evil Plans” (Season 3 Episode 8) – 6.3

Once again, we go back to droids, specifically R2-D2 and C-3PO, who, in this episode, are the target of one of The Clone Wars’ best and most popular characters, Cad Bane.

Bane is attempting to extract information from the droids about the Senate, and the episode is ultimately just filler at its weakest, despite having great characters, it has no importance.

4 “Bombad Jedi” (Season 1 Episode 8) – 6.2

“Bombad Jedi” was one of the first real episodes of the show that was received as truly bad even though it does have a bit of heart to it and some funny moments, especially for a younger audience.

It sees Padmé travel to Rodia, where she is betrayed by a friend who has sided with the Separatists, leaving Jar Jar and C-3PO to save her from capture. The idea alone was enough to lose support from most fans, especially this early in the show.

3 “Deal Or No Deal” (Season 7 Episode 6) – 6.2

Going back to season seven and the poorly received Martez sisters and Ahsoka arc, the second episode of the quadruple sees them hired to deliver spice to Kessell.

This episode was very controversial in the fandom, with it being the point where a lot of fans sent a lot of hate the way of the Martez sisters, especially for Trace dumping the spice. As important as the arc is for the character of Ahsoka, there were some pitfalls.

2 “Dangerous Debt” (Season 7 Episode 7) – 6.0

The third episode of that same arc was the worst received out the lot and deserved to be. The final episode was an improvement, but the episode which sees the three imprisoned with Ahsoka trying to hide her powers from the sisters proved pointless.

The three escape their cell, but by the end of the episode are right back in it again, and not enough went on in the middle to justify it, just Ahsoka attempting to hide her powers as she finds out why the sisters hate Jedi.

1 The Clone Wars Movie (2008) – 5.9

Technically the movie is not an episode, but it is very much a part of the series, it falls in the timeline after the first couple of episodes of the show and ultimately acts as a filler episode with an extended runtime that, if you watch in chronological order, does nothing but introduce Ahsoka. It is the lowest-rated piece of The Clone Wars out there.

The movie was received unbelievably poorly upon release, draining a lot of hope people may have had in the series itself. Despite the quality of the film, though, the show went on to be incredible, and this piece of glorified filler added Ashoka to the mix.
